It gives me great pleasure in announcing the release of Scorched3D version 42.1. This is a minor version to fix a few small issues with version 42.
Fixes include: o Changed skill formula to have less fluctuations (more stable skill) o Fixed unicode names in server web console o Added more LUA scripting functions o Changes for 64bit compiler compatability o Changes for gcc version 3.4 compatability o Fixed X11 dependancies for OSX binaries o Fixed server sending too many messages to the client o Fixed quick server launching on windows
Happy to see a new release, but... Can anyone explain how the skill notifications are supposed to be interpreted? Playing my first 42.1 game on the bot server for an hour or so and have only seen negative or zero skill points reported for everyone.
Edit: right after posting this, I realised that there are two numbers displayed. One is for the killer (and that one is positive) and the other is for the victim.

Ah good, you worried me for a bit Yes, since the gained and lost skill numbers are different now I thought I would display both of them.
If you hover over a tank or score line in the leader board it will tell you what your starting and current skill actualy is.
ummm.Gavin......I was away a week or so......came in tonte, downloaded the patch. Went to main and someone was leaving as I came in. The game started cycling through each round and I couldn't stop it. Constant changing of maps and tips won't shut off. I'm going to reboot and see if client settles down.

Reboot and came back in by myself....seems stable now, just waits for players.....apologies for false alarm.

I've noticed that i'm abt alone with trouble on ubuntu 8.10 (right?)
how come it's seem to be so? (or other ubuntu users find solutions)
i have tried to take the rpm package with alien, with no luck.
i have tried to make scorched3d compile on my ubuntu with no luck at all.
the version out for ubuntu is scorched3d_42dfsg-1~getdeb_i386.deb
this might should have been scorched3d_42.1dfsg-1~getdeb_i386.deb
keep up the good work all !!!

You are correct they have not updated the release yet. To compile see http://www.scorched3d.co.uk/wiki/index. ... _Linux_v42 it should compile ok if you have errors please post them. I compiled from source last night on ubuntu 8.10.

Still no 42.1 version for Debian/Ubuntu in getdeb. I don't often compile programs and the list of dependencies for scorched3d is useless to me, as I know nothing about them and the package names in Synaptic aren't remotely similar. Therefore, I can't compile the source.
