okay I have tried to stay out of all this, but by my own hand I have laid myself right in the middle of it. I did not want to have to reply to all these posts about hacking, cheating, aimbot creating, blah, blah , and blah-ing. I did not want to get involved at all, because I knew that if I did, I would be tempted to leave the game yet again (which I won't).

I did not know about all the trouble with Pam and the scorched community. I had not been monitoring her on other servers or in the forums. If I had known, I would not have entered her server and offered to join in her efforts on the mod.

I will not be a party to anyone's evil plans.

the true mark of a skilled player is the ability to adapt. If a player cannot adapt, then maybe that player wasn't all that skilled to begin with...

@Gavin,
I think you're talkig about the tanktypes.xml settings file ?
I once played with it, coz I disabled the players ability to choose a tank from the menu. All a player saw was the questionmark. Everyone had to choose a random tank, which should have had different weapon capabilitys. But sadly, the settings in tanktypes.xml had no effect. Has anyone got this working ?
(I wonder why there has to be a "none" entry.)
I'll have a good look at TankTypes.cpp tomorrow, but I don't think there's a bug.
In most cases, I just made a silly mistake :P . . .

@Panther,
what have you been smoking ? Are you trying to be funny ?
Let's assume the worst case:
Lets pretend Pam has used a hack and made some points. ( which she didn't)
That's enough for you to withdraw ?
Do you have to be friends with everyone ?
Can u imagine how full my inbox is ?
( Rape was one of the lighter offers)
Do you have a spine ? Do you have ballz ?
No ? Aw, that's sad . .

HAVE U ALL GONE FREAKIN NUTZ ?
It's a fscking GAME, not the 3rd World War.
(I wondered why folks that visited my server said they'd never play with the sickos on the offical ones. That seemed a bit harsh to me. Now I'm begining to understand what they were talking about . .)

Look at Gavin. It's his game and he doesn't give a *****.

[Likes Daddy more and more every day] :P

No really, this is so silly.
Has anyone committed murder, or what ?
Are we friends that play a game, or are we dedicated enemies ?
When I started to play computer games, the internet was something for rich folks. All u could do was invite your neighbour.
(which wasn't that bad, in some cases)
Now we share the whole world, any country is just a click away. You're about to ruin everything for everyone if you don't stop this madness.

I now officially announce my collaboration with Lapstops Daddy.
( Lets see how he wriggles out of that )

Edit:
@Gavin (again, doh)

I'm not going to tell you what to do, I'm sure you're busy enough with your real live and the coding you do for all of us in your spare time . . FOR FREE !
I'm sure you could drop GPL, sell the code, and make some money.
(which he doesn't, coz he's a Nixer, like me, not a bot or a droid)
I only want to tell you a short story:
I have multiple websites and forums, and couldn't possibly watch them all every day. So I had to assign moderators, just like you. But sometimes someone gets bold . . .
On my motorcycle forum, I remember the case when a mod had a dislike for japanese sport bikes. Anyone with a Gixxer( that's a Suzuki GSXR) got censored or deleted without obvious reasons. On my cats forum(Do I hear laughter ?) a mod treated owners of siam cats badly. On my dating site (I warned you) a 40y old mod made offensive posts to very young girls. (sick sad world, isn't it ?)
I found out, and relieved them of their dutys. I always make sure that the mods act like I would, if I had the time. And so should you.

I'm trying to contribute content here. I have a few artists/coders at my disposal and am willing to share code and help to improve the game in every way possible, but my efforts are being hampered by a few ppl that seem to be drunk with the power you gave them, but lack in the brain department.
I ask you to make a statement !
Be against me, and I'll leave without a word. You'll never hear from me again.
Support me, and we make a hell of a game.
I'm sick and tired of pimple faced youths with testosterone problems.
Your choice . .

Alone ?

All by yourself ??

What a waste . . . .

Btw, (I'm getting the hang of this "btw" stuff)
All this talk reminded me of WAR.
Then I spotted the Starfighter (F-104 tank)
(Totally misplaced as a tank, if u ask me)
I already persuaded the old fellow to take off, fire at players, and land again.
All we need is some greenery and mountains.
Do u think ppl might like a vietnam map ?

(This game really makes me waste my time, curse you Mr Camp)

I noticed your comment Pam, about having a few artists at your disposal, any chance that you are hiding a few 3d modelers in there also?

Thanks for giving us all that information on vector format; it will be useful.
Crunchlets? I have crunchlets?

1. Nothing. 2. Maybe
3. No (as I mentioned in my post )

4. would love to but no.
5. perhaps.
6 yes. 7. and obviously that last question is personal, so I will not answer it.

as for my message. just read it and don't try to analyze.

Op scorched (mod) uses it and it appears to work :)
The tanktypes are referenced from the tanks.xml file. e.g. each tank in the file can be given a different type. Without this all tanks get the default type.

@Gavin,
I know how it's supposed to work, and how it's done, the game doesn't report any errors - it just doesn't work. Must be my 'crappy' OS :P

@Panther,
sorry for being a tad too personal, but I had some very lousy days. I wrote this post in hospital, after having a few nails removed from my legs. (Motorcycle accident) I was just looking for a little fun and found out I'm banned from the servers. Then I read through the forum . . . which pretty much ruined my day, as you might imagine. I just wondered how you can have a good time playing and chatting with me, and then turn around completely just because some folks 'think' they know something about me. Do you really give a fsck about gossip ? Haven't you agreed that it's a shame how much time some ppl spend with their modding, but hardly anyone visits their servers ? I've never seen more than one visitor at a time on yours . . My server is full a few minutes after I start it. Imagine what we could do together . . . It might pay off, having a bad reputation. :P After all - only dead fish swim with the stream. I borrowed one of your weapons - as you suggested - but won't use it unless you give permission.

@Daddy,
thy for your support and all the, useless - but fun, talk about computers, GPUs, OSes and suchlike. It's good to know there's at least one soulmate out there.

And last, but by no means least,
I promised Mr. Irishbandit a Vietnam map. I thought one of the 7 wonders of the world might make a good start. So I started to model the temple of Angkor Wat. After 2 days of drawing, I remembered that the wretched thing is in Laos . . . :-D Ah well there's always the next map, right ?
Sadly, this means I've wasted quite some time.
But I'm on it, and got lost in details. The damn thing is already 60 MB . . .

It's far from finished - here are a few teasers:

Image

The river down in the canyon is authentic, I stole it from Google Earth. :) A perfect hide for any vessel.

Image

I'm afraid it's a little aircraft oriented, but what's Nam without Wild Weasel SAED ? I borrowed the F-104 Starfighter, and made a F4G Phantom. All we need for a complete set is a F-105 Thunderchief.

Image

And they need a home, don't they ? We have an airstrip, the tower is almost finished, but we still need barracks, and aircraft shelters, and a mess hall, and a PX, and radar, and . . . . . ah well, at least there's a Baywatch hut on the far side of the shore. Has anyone got a 3D model of Mrs Anderson ?

Image

You know me, I just can't do without subs.
This one moves silently to hidden places before it knocks your lights out. :-D
The bloody bridge gave me headaches, coz Milkshape has a triangle limit. I had a look at this proggy on my sisters Windows box - it really can't get any more LowEnd that that.
Definitely the bottom of the barrel !

Image

That's it for now, the airfield needs attention, a village has to be drawn. I want a fountain, and cats, and cattle. The palmtrees are all wrong, their leaves are rounded, but the palms in Nam have spiky ones. The aircraft still fire missiles, but they should fire Mavericks and HARMs. The sub is sh*t, it has no doors for ICBMs . . I want a beautiful map, not just a place to shoot at each other.
Just give me a few days . . . . weeks . . .

Nice, very cool. :) :)

Needs robin williams voice saying “GOOOOD MORNING VIETNAM!” And robert duvalls "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" from Apocalypse Now

The Angkor Wat is actually in Cambodia and part of the Vietnam war took place in Cambodia If you look up information about the Vietnam war you will find that the Cambodian Campaign in late 1970 had about 14000 casualties.

But do what you want.

Right - Cambodia, but still a bit far away from my canyon. We might need a 4096x4096 map.
I already thought about Robin Williams . . . .
