Hi all,

Think I am going to call this the tropix map pack :)
A big thanks to everyone who has been helping me to make this possible , this is a great community.

Anyways, here is the screenshots :

here is the package:
http://www.savefile.com/files/1269114

it is in MOD form, for those who do not want to edit their scorched landscape file, and tank file.just copy the folder over to your globalmods folder, and you will be all set....

But it is easy to install to the main scorched 3d too, just copy over all the files, and manually copy and paste the landscapes, and tank file (optional)

I am going to re-package this map pack, and enter it into the mapping contest , I wanted to get some feedback on if I am over populating my maps with placements, or not enough placements... too many textures... Etc :) I may still add some radio/TV station/microwave relay towers to the mountain tops... I would also like to make a ship, and a custom boid if time allows me... I really want this in the contest :D

For slower systems, the Random island, and random atoll maps will be the least amount of CPU sucking content. The random maps also make Multiplayer gameplay more interesting.... not the same old map everytime, something new and interesting :D

Please let me know how it runs on your system :)
also ANY type of feedback/Critiquing/Bug reporting, is more than welcome!!!

Yep, looks gorgeous. I like the littles houses. This'll make a killing in the map competition/gallery.

What sort of fps do you get on this map compared to others?
I don't think you'll want to spend that much cash unless you want a beer cooling -dehumidifing - computer case that waters your house plants.

Hi guys :)

I get great FPS on this map, I have some very densely populated islands , and not so much as a hiccup happens on my system.

But, I have a very new system.... I need some people with older systems to run it, and see if I am a "motherboard melter".

Think I am just going to wait until this afternoon, and if no one tests, I will just upload to the mapping competition.Hopefully the judges will like it and if I need to fix something they will let me know.

I want to start on another texture pack, and some more models in a snow like theme.

I would also like to expand this texture pack to include some commercial buildings, hospitals, and schools. I feel weird about adding churches or other religious structures. People get offended way too easy now-a-days.

I'd say my only complaint would be that the green grass/leaves/whatever are a bit blurry. Otherwise, its gorgeous.

On my C2D and 8800GTS (and on max settings), I'm hitting my limit of 60 fps, so I'd say you could add a couple more objects....

I don't agree about adding the commercial buildings, though. The maps have this sort of rural feel to them, which I like. In my opinion, you also shouldn't really have to worry about placing churches and such. Since when is a church/mosque/temple offending? Unless it was to Hitler or something.....

Hey cool :) I will turn up the volume a bit on the trees, and the low-poly buildings :)

About the ground textures... is it possible to tell the game engine to scale them down so that they are more "crisp" looking?

or should I just use (new) 512x512 textures?... I use texturemaker, and I could have a new complete set done in about an hour, thanks to the macro feature re-sampler, and the ability to add fine seamless noise in hundreds of patterns.

well, anyway! thanks guys :)

The Easter Head Island look is a very nice touch.

About the churches, I too have a bit of a problem with those as well. Not because they are symbols of Christianity, but because the players get a reward for destroying them, same goes for hospitals. Since you are creating a mod, you can give them a negative kill value if you desire.

You might even want to go so far as removing health points from the shooter in addition to taking some score points. You can very easily set it up where blowing up a church costs you 50 health points and 50 score points if that's what you want.

I think this will add a little extra challange and perhaps give a wounded player a place of refuge. That was a hint to anyone that might stumble acroos the Apoc Champions server if it ever comes back up. Hiding in a church, while not a new or novel idea, has worked very well for the past few hundred years and in several wars, the churches were very friendly to those with cash. No, I don't think that there is a way to charge someone for sanctuary time, but that might be something for down the road.

Hey Padre, can I sit here for a while and pray that my buddies don't kill me? Why yes my son, for a small contribution (say $5,000) each shot, you can sit here the whole game. Hmmmmm?

Best of luck with the mod,

Rommel

Oh, I agree with that idea for penalizing the destruction of certain buildings. I'd extend them to schools, too. Although you'd have to make sure to include all kinds of churches if you have multiples on the map.

For that matter, how hard would it be to make a functional bunker? Or having battery packs near the hospitals?

Image Although I don't think you should be able to shoot out of them. Then the target player would face the same issues our troops are in Iraq.

For that matter, does this put too much stress on religion? I'm still for the idea, just wondering how others would take this....

None of what you asked about is difficult to implement. Bunkers, weapons given, etc.. As for shooting from inside a building: Object placements are targets on all servers now, not just mine. This means that shooting from inside a small building is very bad. Almost the same as shooting yourself. This ensures that the point of refuge can't be used as a vantage point for shooting.

Thanks guys! some really cool ideas :)

I am going to try finalizing this tonight, after i search in vain for a way to control the landscape texture scale.

my suggestion is:

there should be lots of more positive points for destroying chruches

..hm I'd like to make some "Burn-The-Church-MOD"
