tested it a tad last night and today. It all seems to run
quite smoothly for me. I think my graphics choke mostly on complex
weapons. Scorchwars seems to run very well with my standard settings
(below max)

also thought you guys would think this is funny.

when I logged on, just after downloaded the newest stuff, the screen
game comes up and The Imperial Death March begins to play. I was
happily watching Thrax and Shock blow up the HOTH WORLD, -- and was
totally in the movies -- when i realized it was not the game music.

Windows media had selected the song randomly from my list at that exact
moment!! :P I thought it was really hilarious but Thrax and Shock
didn't. The allure for them must be dwinding away as they slave away on
the code and such. They've seen it too much.

Well for this scorcher, it was a freekin great show!!

Oh, i believe you there.. the Music we had in before, made the whole
experience damn near real!...

But some few of the others thought it was pushing the copyright barrier a
teeny bit.

All i can ask is, if we pose a Huge copyright disclaimer on the front-page
of every game loaded, Can we Puullleeese put the music back in??
oh sure, it'll only increase the mod-size 15-20 meg, but.. it's worth it!

The only time you have to worry about copy rights is when the exchange of money is involved.

Are you making money with this mod?

Is somone paying you to work on this project?

Is Scorced Earth 3D making money on this mod?

If you say No to these questions then you can do what you please with Star Wars music and so forth.

And btw Contributions don't count as Selling product. 8)

Well it's not only when you're making money should you worry about copyrights but also if a company is losing money because of it.

Ask this question to yourself: "If I add this music to my MOD, are people gonna find it as a free replacement for the company's soundtrack."

If no, then go ahead with it.

Given that Scorched 3D is not popular enough to distribute the music widely, and that it's a free game, I don't really think anything will be done about it regardless... But there may be that small (very small) chance if the above question is true.

just some notes as not to forget..

problems with larger maps sized larger then 256x256 cause the
following problem/bug issues..

fuel only works on the size 256x256 parts of the map so if the map
is sized 512-1026 you can only move in that 256x256 cubic part of it.

generated hills <surround> do similar effects and
a tad buggy.. same issue any map larger then 256x256
does not Glue to the map borders so what you end up seeing
is see threw edges wich look very bad.

still having memory issues with larger maps.. 512x512 maps
& depending on how many models, sounds etc.. climbs in exessive
anywhere between 70 megs to 100+megs in mem usage depending what
map is loaded & in use..when I saw this by looking in the task manager
I just about fliPped..

music... yes it would be nice to have an on/off switch *seperate* from
ambient sounds so that we can re enable it for those who wish to hear it..

and as far as all the copyright jabber.. I am not concerned ..
It's all opensource and not being sold.. wich is now stated in the
welcome message all starwars related files within the mod are copyright
lucas film yada yada.. so as to protect gavin/scorched project from any
chances of harm.. *as if* .

on the hanger map ..some are having issues related to not seeing the
purchase window due to the map load process taking longer then usual
*scratches head*.

ambient sounds are not working for me for some strange reason
so this makes things difficult to set or make them..

If I cant hear then.. how am i supposed to fine tune them.. *sigh*
stupid 16 bit onboard sound card I BLAME YOU...

reset my stats and now it seems i need atleast 5 kills to connect..
yet there is no beginners server up to make those 5 kills in..

so thrax how are players supposed to connect & play again?

this is all because no1 is getting along with doom?

*sigh* I wish you 2 could resolve your issues so others dont
get caught in the crossfire and suffer as a result..

end of note to myself that everyone gets to see.. lol

if user groups had a member only info field, you could place the password there.

otherwise, reset the password to block doom out and send it only out by request. (although I don't really know what he did, other than appear clueless)

the minkills setup was just, well, mean. Not that I wouldn't do the same thing. :P

I am no lawyer, and my knowledge of copyright law certainly isn't that much. But totally ignoring copyrights and using other people's material without their consent is a bad idea. You probably can get away with it, but that doesn't make it any more legal. Seriously, 'not being concerned' about copyrights is one of the major complaints that people have with the open source community. I see this all the time in comments on happypenguin about people re-using material that they have no rights to use. Just because you can find bits and pieces of copyrighted material at various places on the internet does not make it legal for you to re-distribute them in your own projects.

Now I certainly am no saint here. I've used a sound clip or two or cut parts out of an image with questionable copyright status. But straight up using the music from the Star Wars films without the consent of Lucas Films IS unquestionably copyright infringement. Having the mod on sourceforge containing material which you have no rights to use IS a problem, whether you think it is or not. Don't get me wrong, I think the mod is great. But the fact remains that there is a possibility that the copyright issue could cause the whole Scorched 3D Mods project to be shut down should someone decide to act upon it. And I, for one, would really hate to see your 'lack of concern' about copyrights ruin the project for the rest of us.

Please, if someone who knows more about copyright law than I (and that really wouldn't take very much) thinks I am wrong here, by all means enlighten me. But please Shockwave, don't just shrug the issue off like its not a problem, it might not be yet, but it can be if someone wants to complain about it.
Undead.

I don't want to block anyone, not even doom...
He has already appologized to me personally.
and.. nobody is blocked at all.

Except 3 players that insist on being extremely rude, i have no
impropper Ban's on my servers.

All access to the Mod has been opened.. Any player that want's to
leech //// er.. download and play the mod, Can.

Hi I agree,
I'd make sure you if you intend using another artists work, that you at least request permisson or inform them of your intent. There are ways around it of course, and that is to ensure you use "samples", not sure what length is required, or you alter the sound content... do a remix and put some phat beats under it or somthing... and some white noise.. but that may be annoying.

Pop into the open server and keep up with the latest ideas.
Play it in it's propper glorious form.
The CVS isn't updated often, only when large changes are validated
and stable.

Since the LaserProof alteration crippled most of it, i've got to try new
things to balance it out.
I'm open to "starwars related" weapon suggestions.
