Only things I use are:
Paint Shop Pro X (Now Owned by Corel): (30 day trial, $99 to buy) Paint Program I use which is a bit less advanced than Photoshop but gets the job done nicely.
Milkshape 1.7.6.: (30 day tial, $20 to buy) Modeling program I use
To resample sounds I mainly just use Windows Sound Recorder. I'll use a couple of other tools for something more advanced but I don't even remember what they're called.
Scorched 3D: Mountaintop Removal at its finest!

Crimson Editor - Freeware text editor I like to use for xml.
The rest has been listed already pretty much, Paint Shop Pro for any 2D work, Milkshape 3D for the modelling and Audacity for the sound editing. I also like to use WinRAR instead of WinZip as RAR compresses a little bit better.
Personally I don't like winrar that much because older version can't open an archive made by a newer version (even if there is only a small version change)
Beware the VOID
When in doubt on why your mod broke...
it's all Bobirov's fault.

There's a very simple soution to that. Download a newer version. That also doesn't happen with every version change. Only when they do something drastic to the compression method.

I have found a little program for windows users
created by Mirex called Biturn
Biturn is a *Musthave* 3D Modeler Tool & a *Fantastic Find*
I think It'sperfect4 Scorched Moderators
Infact ..Gavin, you may want to write the guy & ask him if its ok to include this little program with your Scorched releases as its so small & useful.
This is a *simple* program for coversion of 3D model and Bitmap files.
It supports some commonly used formats and some game-formats
but more importantly ---> Milkshape read & write! & 3dsmax so you
can easily open a model up & preview it in the little preview window
(or) convert it to whatever other formats it supports.
Usage: Run it, browse for files you want to see.
If you want to convert them select output format
and click Convert button. *that simple*
The Input file does not have to have proper extension,
if it is possible the program will recognize it.
And by the way, Biturn was formerly called Conv.
Try moving mouse with buttons & shift key pressed
to move the viewpoint.
Simple, Easy, No Virals, No adware, No spyware,
No Riskware, No Malware..And Freeware made.
& most importantly.. PERFECT for Scorched 3D Models !!!
Just unzip it..& put the biturn folder anywhere you like.
I put mine directly into the Scorched Directory.

If you enjoyed his little Biturn Program as I have,
you can visit Mirex's Site and try his other little tools
you also may find useful.

Sounded familiar until I saw the screenshot. Yeah, I've used that before and it is pretty nifty but being that it's able to convert so many model types, it does run into some problems converting every now and then. At least, I've had it happen before.

I thought so to It's nice just to fire up a model to preview it & for those simple minded folk not firmiliar with 3d software.. theres little to *no* experience needed. lol

Dunno about any other games but..
I have tried quite a few conversions with it and had no problems
*as of yet* in this version anyeways.
But I asume with any converter theres bound to be
some form of flaws & format support issues.
And more importantly & to the point.. it does fine with milkshape
and for use with scorched3D .. it's a great tool for us
So Who cares about what other games it has problems with as long as its Scorched tested & Mother approved ehehe
