Open Letter to the Staff:

In researching the record game on the beginners server today I noticed that the topic SCORCH's Greatest Games is getting a bit long and confusing after seven pages of entries. This simple research would have been very time intensive on a dial up connection due to the photos. Additionally this consumes bandwith from the server. In an effort to make things a little better for all concerned I offer this suggestion :

Splitting the thread and making the first sub level the version played with sub levels that indicate the type of games played followed finally by the entries for the version and type of game played might be helpful.

Best wishes to all,

Rommel

btw, I don't see why the badwidthe would be an issue, the server loads only the pics on 15 posts at a time if I am not mistaken.

THe confusion factor, that post is not meant to be a coherent conversation, so why bother to try to make it one ( I admit I almost have never read that thread since I frequently make my own amzing games every time I play :D)

Is there anyone besides these two dudes that feel the same way?

Suppose that bandwidth isn't a concern to the operator.
It is still a concern to those using a dial up account.

If it is not right, do not do it.

I'm not sure who said that ... some geek I think.
Maybe he was Greek. Greek, geek, it's all Greek to me.

The point being this ... No one is going to support doing the work required.
If anyone really cared, these things would be getting done on their own.

Organization is either a good thing, on it's own merits, or it is not.

If it is not right do not do it; if it is not true do not say it. - Marcus Aurelius

If it were not true, I would have told you. Some other guy said that, Roman I think.

I reject your conclusion. The thread is ideally organized! Its all in one place. ;) What are we supposed to do? Police the people who post too many pictures?

Secondly, the dial up dinosoar is a hazard that is entirely the responsibility of the member to resolve, and only should be addressed on the part of administration as a special service. If this game or forums were catered primarily to dial up users, then that is a different situation, but it isn't, wouldn't you agree?

I do believe that the attachments feature allows for photos up to 500 KB? That seems reasonable I guess, the problem is not the thread organization, the page views are nearing 50K :D. Those that don't wish to visit this page, should not do so. Is anyone else interested in a low res version of that thread?

Besides splitting the topic into chaos, is there any other method that would solve the "problem"?

I'm not sure why you brought this back to life.
Especially since you think that it is a bad idea.
Regardless of all that, no problem.

Just so no one misunderstands, and thinks I am
monopolizing your time, I didn't request your help.

You performed a great service to promote the game
when you made the required clarifications to the rules.

You spent a great deal of time reading through all of the
trash posts on that topic and have surely earned a break.

If an "OFFICAL BEST GAME" section is desired at some
point, you have my suggestions.

Well, really the topic is meant to be unorganized but organized :). I don't see much on organizing it so ppl with lower bandwith connections can visualize faster it's content (Dial users surely don't make a good percentage of server requests). It is menat to have a good game and just post it.
Truce?... Nah, die!

Hi Admins :

A formal and official place of distinction
for the best game per release was the
goal. At the end of each stat series,
throphys could be awarded for the best
games if so desired.

Something extra to promote interest and
keep people playing without changing the
game in any manner whatsoever was the
idea. Something that would remain within
anyone's reach at any time and could be a
goal for anyone, regardless of their stats or
the amount of free time they have to play.

If you want this topic to die, we should let
it die. Others may start thinking it sounds
reasonable if we continue.

I won't bump it again if you don't.

Later,

Rommel

I actually agree with the above comment. Perhaps each stats series should have a dedicated thread? Then a vote can be had afterwards and the best "verified" game should be awarded a tourny trophy :D I love trophys!

Yes, but mine was intended to be nothing more than a friendly annual reminder, that you once considered it a good idea.

The reason I am bringing it back to life a bit ahead of schedule is because some of you (including BOY) thought it might be a good idea. Perhaps it is worth the trouble, perhaps not, that is for you to decide. However, if trying to increase interest, methods that are unlikely to upset the current players might be worth a second look.

A dunce cap trophy for the most SK's per series that is passed from player to player might be fun if I didn't get stuck with it every series.
