Guys,

I've had this problem with latency all this while..and its really obvious when I'm playing s3d and also on chess.com. High pings and all that. No problems with download speeds though. Funny thing is, I so happened to use my kids pc (on same network/router/isp but different wireless adapter...theirs is using a wireless G type and I am on wireless N) and voila...so much less latency?

Any ideas guys? Also, I did a HijackThis Scan, and was wondering if anyone here is familiar at deciphering the logs and figuring out the problem, if it were to be the case of there being adware or spyware slowing down my connection. I did a scan with ESET anti virus and came out with nada.

Is it a constantly bad ping or spikes every minute or so?
If it's spikes every minute, then it's windows zero configuration scanning for new networks.

Perhaps the computer's running @ the owners speed, kids are quick, you're ..... OLD and decrepit :p

Lynx?? Isn't that a type of wild cat? Heheh

@PR - no, not spikes, when i play s3d, it's constantly averaging about 400+ms and can get worse, I've seen it averaged out at 1000+ms in the later rounds. I use PeerBlock, but I am sure that only affects browsers and p2p downloading.

Get rid of peer block, it's completely pointless, your ISP might/can/does track what you're doing through their RADIUS servers and only software that converts the application layer protocol can hide it, but that brings about all kinds of other problems for you with your P2P software. (No, proxies won't help either).

Run a ping test & post the results can you...

Also what's the output from:
(in command line (cmd in windows)

ping www.google.co.id -n 20

Gotta wait for the server to pop the images in (always takes ages on here for whatever reason).

Just a thought which I'd pretty much dismissed initially as you're not an idiot, but just incase I'm wrong and you are...

You're not P2Ping or using the net for anything while gaming etc are you?

Wireless is REALLY crap @ multiple connections (torrents are particulaly bad for this) at the same time and will create massive lag.

OK they're there now

Those results are absolutely BRILLIANT, I'd LOVE to get even close to those timings.

What about:
ping 83.170.114.133 -n 10

MAYBE a link you're going through from home over to the scorched servers is crappy (which might only be now and then as you may not always going through it or it might only occasionally have a high contention).

Keep that IP handy aswell, if the results this time are ok and when you play it's crap, ping that IP and see if the pings are coming back horribly.

Not sure if you've just now posted the scorched pings or I've only just seen them, but it looks like you've got a crappy link to the UK.

so try
tracert 83.170.114.133

That will isolate what link's killing you!

what makes me wonder is why, my pc is showing latency problems and its not on my kids pc...

yeah, when i am gaming i limit the download upload speed if i am on p2p or otherwise i close the p2p program itself.

drivers could make a difference. you could try turning off any encryption for a test. you could limit the connection to G only to see if it's that. could help to tweak windows settings. running from a different OS on the same hardware would be a good test. you could try a live linux or something, if your network card will work, knoppix 6 is good, and see if your numbers change.

ps: tracert -w xxx etc.etc.etc.etc (sets wait time for timeout)

Limiting speeds makes little difference, all those connections are still open and having to be managed by your router to and from your system as your P2P client will be keeping the connections open.

To test against your kids system, you'd have to run the ping tests to scorched @ the same time.

Having almost every hop time out's annoying and concerning, some often do as they don't respond to pings (that's all that's happening, the system's pinging each router you're travelling through).

When I ping 115.132.110.226, which is your ISP I imagine, I'm getting 334ms

Somewhere between the UK and your backward country SUCKS ass!

Nice point on the 'wait' but the rest of the tips don't explain the pings to google or pingtest which are SOOOO nice!

Also doesn't explain the ping from me to his ISP
