Oh sure Chopper [-X , as I sit in the MAIN server listening to the blissful sounds of helicopters and jets.
Nice work so far man, gonna give a top-down analysis.
If the flash banner style stays then that’s definitely cool to have a life feed coming from one of the servers. (though right now it’s just a prerecording right?) I would allow for 3-4 lines of text rather then one, feels a little more news-feed like.
Would it also relay conversations or only system actions? (the prior could raise issues). Maybe instead of phasing between three different landscape recordings have onload randomly select one and stay upon that one with a loop of its animation (if possible to seamless).
This is a minor technicality, but keep some of the lines that separate sub-forums, threads, and posts from one another. Everything flowing together feels off.
On a glance it really doesn’t feel appealing to have everything gray (it almost tuned me completely away at first).. but scorched has always been simple in style. One of the things I still cherish. That being said, trying to imagine the website with a diversity of bright colors doesn’t work. Nor does taking the background to basic black, it throws out all of the 3D shaping.
Long story short – Gray works.
I just cannot put my finger on it, but the thin line underneath the links bar bugs me. I tried to edit it out but that only made the appearance worse.
The imprinted wording “3d artillary”.. “online gameplay” .. “a state of the art blablabla”.. hard to recognize at a glance. Maybe blacken them completely or something.
Overall it looks like you spent quite some time so far and it’s coming along strongly.
Something about this sounds too one sided. One would think the authors of the GPL would have some term and condition to address these issues.
The fact of the matter is the author of this game did not give permission for this, and while there is someone profiting (profiting, not just covering their production expenses) the author is distinctly not one of them.
I was always under the presumption that once presented as open source that it actually caused the exact opposite of this… that the versions presented were not allowed to be distributed for profit?
Good eye Peanuts, turning off “GL Shaders” did the trick.
So now the question I have is… will I miss it? Whats the difference?
Having to launch anything knowing it won’t work if “something is turned on”… never acceptable! 😈
btw.. howdy DS, how ya been man?
Scorched is what it has always been, no reason to be mad at it.
Not really. I checked in after the version and wasn’t too thrilled myself. But my game time here is already thin so I didn’t bother to stress it.
This goes back to one of my beleifs:
Ignorance is bliss in the eyes of the beholder.
Translation: For being an idiot life may be good for you… but for everyone else who has to put up with you… its a nightmare!
Well taunt files could be handled no different then any other mod file..
Held and operated by the server, in case of a mod the user downloads the taunt files with the rest of the content.
Invent a new XML file that gives the user a list of available taunts.
1) Keeps control in the moderator/administrators hands – and if users for whatever reason don’t approve of the taunt sounds… they can leave the server as quickly as they entered.
2) This keeps everyone on the same page… there’s no waiting for sounds to download as they already have them.. and its a safe way to assure everyone has the same taunts (person A cannot send person B a taunt that person B does not have).
I am all for the reduction of damage for (baby) rollers. Even ignoring all the shield discussion, the fact (with unique exceptions) that one sphere would be enough to make the kill… thats just strong.
Not Do, but SHOULD regular rollers have a place and time? Or is because of how everything is set (sure you can make baby smaller and shields stronger)… that the current scope of required damage being small … regular rollers have out lived their purpose entirely?
Weapons seem to show up in two forms.. ‘bairly enough’ and ‘overkill’
I love this topic. Honestly I do..
Because I thought initially the kill requirment was a good thing.
If the problems have returned I don’t have a problem with the requirment returning… I also go back to my suggestion of a kill cap, where people must eventually go from the beginner server to the main server.
Because, while your trying to spare Beginners from playing against pro’s.. you need to keep pro’s from finding the beginners.
Only a 17 hour drive for me. (no thanks, I rather not go over *there* jk 🙂 )

I told you.. we think alike! If I ever do have kids, and all those many, many… MANY years later I find Scorched3D is still functional…
Well let’s just say I’m glad I won’t be here to see your suffering 😈
Sounds like the classic Scorched Earth version of the Lazy Boy?
*chains CD’s foot to Scorched so he can’t leave again*
Oh you ain’t gettin away that easily.
How you been man?
Yeah I heard about this on the news and I had a good laugh.
All over the paper / news they were about “oh look at us we’re doing a good job, oh you’ll be seeing a drop in spam alright!”.
I love the way this article REALLY puts things … “oh, you caught a sammer?..*shrug* good for you.. NOW GET BACK TO WORK!”
And thats the truth, one spammer even if he is a high ranker, will not make any difference. Plus with all the anti-spam technology out there it’s hard to even know if that type of spam is reaching you in the first place.
