    Displays fine here, however because of my internet connection, it plays for a second or so, and then loads for a second or so. Once the video is completely downloaded it plays fine.

    So verdict here is: great video, streaming sucks

    as you can see my internet this morning is the culprit:

    Here is a log as you requested, The only change was that I set the “don’t draw any water”. This speed up the speed quite a bit, but FPS was still usually below 20fps. I will be making another log later, or tomorrow of an online game, this one is local.

    Here is the log from my online game (3rounds) with Slurge and Bazzz, same settings as last time.

    One thing that is very noticeable is the sound, it does not sync up with the action, or goes dead, this may be my fault as I have it set for 2 channels only. I don’t know how to set the statetime logging, (noticed your post after playing) but I will try the next time I run V43.

    Overall the game is very fast feeling, almost too fast, can be tiring. (I think I’m turning into an old fart…) can be hectic, almost like a FPS type game. I find the camera angle retuning before the “damage is done” taking some getting used to, I’m not sure I like it, however, with the new game play style, I don’t see any way to avoid this, simply because you can start aiming again as soon as your shot lands.

    Here is the log from a quick offline (local) game, I will do an online game later.

    Settings are identical to those posted by Thrax earlier in this thread. Game feel in this test was much better than previous beta, game is playable. I may be able to improve speed by turning off sky animations and rain/snow.

    I do know I’m running old junk, but anyway, thanks for the advice. I’ll hunt around and see what I can come up with. I don’t do ATI cards, btw, their support for Linux systems is abysmal, a good 1/4 of the posts on Mepislover’s forums is at times, “I can’t get my video correct, I use an ATI bla, bla, bla”. They are constantly dropping support for “older” cards, even if they are still available, whereas, only the very oldest (10yrs) Nvidia cards aren’t supported

    Interesting links BTW, but I think by the time I buy that many adapter cards, I might just as well buy a new comp!

    Also this brings up another interesting new point, a newer computer isn’t a panacea, Chopper is still fighting with a laptop that has specs light years ahead of mine or Thrax’s “old junk” and he is fighting constant crashing

    If there is a light hardware contest, I’ve got V42.1 running on an ACER AspireOne netbook, 1.6 ATOM processor(32bitHt), 1.5G memory, Intel GMA graphics, and a 8.1 inch screen at 1024×600!! It has a “slightly reduced” visual impact and only can get around 10fps, but I can play on it, and have even won a game or two.

    Downloading now to try out.

    I had a thought, the Linux version is a RPM, compiled on some variant of RedHat or Fedora, I would imagine. I’m going to try running “alien” on it and see if it will install.

    Would it be possible to build the game as binaries that run from the /home/username folder in the fashion of “World Of Goo” or “World of Padman”?

    If it is possible it would be very easy to install “cross distro” and keep updated independent of distro “lib” updates as any in-compatible libs can be installed into a user directory and linked to from there. (I believe that is how the current Adobe Reader 9 is done, also)

    Just a thought.

    I’ll try changing the settings later, but to be honest I barely get 25-40 fps most times on V42.1, (Mepis 8.0.15) and play is very choppy in V43 (WindowsXP)

    To be honest the relevant part may be the graphics cards. They are closely matched. I did at one point have a Nvidia 5200 FX in this machine and Scorched WAS unplayable, until I sprang for the 6200 card.

    Another possibility is the ULi chipset this board uses, being a single chip chipset it may be creating bottlenecks where none should be, I wonder if I can get a cheap Nvidia based board off Ebay… or the elusive Nvidia7200 AGP graphics card I’ve thusfar only seen advertised…

    Also, current Scorched, 42.1(eh) (and it’s mods) run fine here. The next version (43) when I tried it in XP (same comp) with similar graphics settings was not playable. I have not yet had the time to compile it for my Linux (Mepis 8.0.15) install, my initial attempts failed, and I have not yet had the time to sit down and try again.

    try testing things like landdetailerror and lowtreedetail from the console.

    i dont think you can turn trees off completely in online games in the most recent versions, because theyre part of the game (missiles and rollers can hit them, so you need to know theyre there), but that’s the only “must” performance hit compared to v41 so far as i know. everthing else can be trimmed and tweaked your end and you should get similar performance.

    ive had a quick play with the beta and i dont see any degraded performance my end.

    Thanks Lappy, I’ll give it a try. My point is, however (YES I know, I’m whining, but just a little..) such tweeks aren’t obvious, and can deter someone with an older comp, before they get started.

    No, Rom, I’m not getting kicked, from main, however I have not yet figured out how to keep playing Merge after Thrax’s server goes down. That seems to be pretty much a “show stopper”.

    Main seems fine, I think I tested at a bad time, that’s when most around here are trying to sift out the “reality” and “fantasy” found in the evening news reports…

    You said you found some sort of malware but I don’t recall what
    it was or if you investigated it thoughly. There is nothing wrong
    with asking Verizon to provide you with a new IPA. If they do,
    stay off of the nudie sites for a few days and see how you play.
