Servers are loaded and run by the pc completely seperate from each other.
The only need would be to give each server it’s own Port-Number. As many
servers of whatever mods you want are entirely possible. Only limited by your
tech savy and pc power.
Presuming my technical savvy is as weak as my PC, could the tournament participants host or serve the game they play in, instead of the Tournament Director (TD)? If I have a tournament mod, can I tell Jon to host game1 for Jon vs. Fred, then I want Mike to host game2 for Mike vs. Matilda. In other words, I want to have exact duplicates of a mod to be temporarily hosted until that game ends. Is this possible? If this is possible, is it problematic regarding abuse or because it is difficult to understand?

I think there used to be a tournament section and we moved it to the news forum. Are you expecting loads of top level topics, not that I mind just wondering?
I am planning on using the forum to plan and execute every aspect of regular tournaments. I am tentatively planning on running at least one weekly tournament, and possibly two. I don’t know what you consider top-level topics, but I can promise some serious spam that is not really part of news, save for a tournament announcement.
I need to use the forum to announce an event. I need players to use that thread to express their interest that they will try to be there (pre-registration). Then I use the forum again on the day of the event to have the players check-in (30 minutes before the event begins), to show that they are available and ready to play. Then I close the event, draw up the brackets, and start calling matches, all on the forum. Results of the matches are reported on the forum thread, and the brackets are updated accordingly, all on the thread. Finally a winner will be declared and that thread will end.
A single event thread will get long, if I get any participation at all. If I do two a week, people that aren’t interested in tournaments won’t necessarily want to see it. It’s really up to you. I don’t really NEED a tournaments section of the forum, unless I get some serious participation going on. Given that S3D is free, I should be able to get some seriously large tournaments going, maybe then you make a tournament section.
I apologize for rambling a bit, but, with permission, I would like to organize a formal group of tournament directors (TDs). I don’t know if you have such a group currently, if so, let me know, if not, I hope to recruit a few others to run tournaments for me when I am not available. That way we can have regularly scheduled tournament events and I won’t have to do everything.
I understand that if I use the forum’s tournament system, it can put a cute little trophy icon under a winner’s avatar. Can trophy icons be awarded manually, since I am planning on not using the forum’s tournament system?
In conclusion, you don’t have to make a forum tournament section, but don’t say I didn’t warn you. I think the news section is a good place for me to announce an event, but not necessarily a good place to actually run that event.

What I want to do is get a 1v1 tournament mod, that I can have several games going at the same time, all the same tournament mod, but with different players.

You have my permission to give us the best-moderated chat lobby of any online game. You do that, and watch scorch grow.
If we could do our own bot advertising in the lobby, we could spam information every five minutes or so, much like the in game spambot.
I bet you could get creative as to who hosts the chat lobby, or how the lobby is hosted. Once someone clicks on “play online” make them the host of the lobby, until they leave, or connect to a game. If they leave and there is no one else, there is no host. If there is someone still left, they become the host. It would be great if it looked just like the in-game chat.
I noticed that the list of servers is a tab, perhaps you can add a tab for a chat window.
Allow players to “shoot” earthen blocks, like legos, to build structures. Perhaps more expensive blocks could resist destruction a bit more than normal dirt.
When I try to create a tournament, I get an sql error.
If it could be propperly Moderated.
It is an absolute must to implement some sort of moderation system. I would recommend a community moderation system of some kind, or a clan of moderators, should the lobby become so populated smacktards become a problem. Admins of the game itself do not necessarily have to take on the additional responsibility of lobby moderation.
My personal experience with a gamespy chat lobby was that zero moderation leads to total chaos. Ad bots and troublemakers all need to be dealt with.
Could someone please close this tournament?
I noticed the AIs aren’t buying parachutes, or more accurately, they don’t buy them consistently. You can kill the AIs like flies on the beginner mod if you can cause them to fall. I would recommend making the AIs a little tougher in regard to parachutes.
R.I.P. Scorched3D community. I just don’t know what else to say.
I am here to save this community.
Have no fear, Levi is here!
In most of the online game forums that I am familiar with, it would be inappropriate for a moderator to delete a post without just cause. I have seen moderators lose their positions over such things.
It is my opinion that the shot clock in the beginner mod is a bit to fast, especially for a beginner. Personally I need about 5-10 seconds more.
I was playing the beginner mod, and died. I was resurrected but died again, this time from the explosion caused by my first death. I think I should not have been resurrected until after all the round’s explosions have finished.
has anyone noticed a giant slowdown, and decrease in their fps? V43 is lagging on my computer, and my frames, in version 42 were the high end of 250. Now with v43 im lucky if i get 8…
Im on Window 7, tried running it in xp mode, get the same problem..
I would do a spyware scan.
I am a little concerned about disclosing too much information about myself. I have participated in online communities for other games before, and when the troublemakers find out personal information, they try to abuse it. 😡
I am from the United States. I work as an independent computer consultant, so I have lots of free time. I am currently mostly unemployed because I was doing telephone technical support, but my job was outsourced during the Bush administration. 👿
I am 45 years old, and am a guy. I am married and have two dogs and two cats, but no kids. I own my own home, shovel my own snow and mow my own lawn.
I was very involved with the game Civilization. When Civ3 play the world came out, I worked as an admin, founding the mp civ league, and working as their head tournament director. When civ4 came out, I joined that league as a HTD only. I have had lots of experience with running tournaments across multiple time zones.
Right now I just need to learn the basics of the game. With luck a few veterans can bring me up to speed. I certainly don’t need to learn every mod, but the more I know, the better the tournaments I run will be.
Maybe someone who knows can bring me up to speed on what has been done so far in the way of tournaments. I did see a few events somewhere on this forum, so I am curious about what formats were used, what mods, etc.
