Hey, I don’t have a problem with AT, but that’s just because I remember back when he was more civil. Now, I’ve heard all kinds of things about how AT is doing vile deeds, insults, provocation, etc. why? i’ve got no clue, but so far he hasn’t personally attacked me or pissed me off in a game (yet), so I remain fairly neutral. Reading the forums here I am somewhat perplexed as to why AT got all confrontational and rude to some players, but eh, it’s not my business so i just go on about my life. I don’t expect the real answer to be forthcoming anytime soon if ever.
how many people do you have to kill in the first round to get a score like that? or how much cash in the first round?
that’s exactly another reason why i resign if i can’t do anything. why am i going to want to waste my time skipping while someone tries to hit me? if auto skip was an option i could continue my non-scorch activities such as reading, browsing the news, etc. without resigning if i wanted to.
speaking of this… is it possible if you’re playing in a windowed mode to have the scorch 3d window jump to the top on round change? as an option of course. i know there’s a sound when the buy window appears, but the stage appears a while before that and it would be nice to have some notification as soon as the new stage is available to view.
cool video! i wish i could have played longer. if i manage to get some cool footage myself i’ll be sure to share it with you direwolf. i also wanted to say that i made a post with some of my thoughts on the new/old weapons in shockmod and this is a link to that post in case anyone else who plays has thoughts on this:
post the time and i’ll be there if possible. i love the shock and apoc mods!!!
i guess post some US time, or if you’re not in the US post some other time and I’ll try to figure it out. I’m in Central, US, and I can figure out other US time zones, but the whole GMC thing confuses me with daylight savings time.
you might want to check the physics on that, i don’t think that it does equal damage to the whole water area when lightning hits, i think the damage would spread out from the point of contact. also, anyone in a small isolated “pool” of water created by explosions inland should not be affected by this, but i imagine the programming for that would be quite difficult.
well, maybe it would be more realistic if when it shot through the land that it burned through it and you saw something like a track mark of collapsed land above it? well, maybe not… the land doesn’t really deform on a thin enough path as that i don’t think. it just seems strange to me for light to be passing through solid dirt and doing anothing to it, more like a gamma ray or something.
also, i don’t even remember lasers in the original scorched earth? was that a later addition?
the teleport idea is aweome. great for when you have like 3 people aiming at you or you’re just in an otherwise bad spot with no shot. not sure how much it should cost… maybe a bit more than gas, 7 or 8K?
with the laser, i’ve seen some in other mods, but this one sounds different. does it go through the land also? that always seemed kind of unrealistic to me, but it makes sense that they don’t bounce off the walls since they don’t bounce off force shields either. I guess they won’t warp either, but it would be super hard to aim through a wall anyways.
I don’t think they should go through land, but maybe i’m the minority in thinking that…
i think it would also be cool to have like a railgun weapon that shot straight like the laser but caused a mid sized explosion where it impacted.
one time i had killed someone across the map with rollers. well, they died the dirt death, and it shot one of the rollers back across the screen at me, hit me DIRECTLY and it counted as me killing myself with rollers. i was in disbelief, but i know other people in the game saw it too. but it was months ago, i wish i had a video of that. i think the chances of it happening are pretty slim.
BTW, i don’t think dirt should do damage, the last thing i want to see is people using this already annoying weapon as a real means to kill. it’s bad enough being buried if you don’t want to and having to dig yourself out, but to take damage also would just make it way too abusive.
sometimes you can kill people under dirt with napalm. it might be a bug, but it’s a good one, LOL. sandhogs also work good. i don’t have a problem with people who want to dirt themselves in, they might get away with it for one round, but you can bet that the next round i’m going to buy some hogs or napalm in case i have to finish them off underground. i don’t see the dirt build up as a problem at all.
Ah, cool I’m glad to see that it got there. I thought it might have taken longer, so it’s good that it reached you already.
I’d like to see a feature where you can toggle on/off the camera control through walls. sometimes i like to see an over-view (zoomed out all the way from the top) of a cave map, and the only way to do it is to hold Ctrl. but you can’t use the “A” aiming peg while doing this. If the go-through-walls camera was like an on/off thing then it would allow for much better camera control in cave maps.
also, it would be nice to see stalagtites that took damage. I don’t expect them to fall off onto people or anything (although that would be cool, lol), but if you hit one with a nuke or something you’d think it would at least reduce it like it does the other land. I mean sometimes they are in your way.
also, I like the interest the way it is… in games with very low interest i think the players who kill the most will be dominating because of the cash flow from kills. with interest, if you can’t kill much at first but play it smart you can build up savings to compete.
i don’t think resigns should be penalized at all.
if you’re playing a group game and everyone on your team is a sitting duck (AKA power is down, can’t hit anything and no batts) then unless you think you can last until the round’s end it makes sense to resign. there is currently no penalty for this, and there should not be. it’s a legitimate tactic, but i guess that could be another vote poll since i know it’s a hotly contested issue.
also, if you’re going to subtract score by hour, it better be the total hours and not how long in a row someone plays, or you’ll see score nazi’s logging out and back in every 59 minutes.
I don’t really think a time based system is fair though, because in a game with 12 people there’s a lot more killing potential going on than in a game with 2-4 people. a time based thing like that just rewards people who play during peak kill times. (side point here: resigning also speeds up games, so I’m in fact usually happy when people do it, especially when someone’s having issues hitting them)
I also think that the scoring system for DH should add up so that if you kill 5 people with it, it equals one baby missle kill. sure, it’s easy enough to play slop and kill SOMEONE with a DH, but to kill 5 or more in one blow usually requires a well placed shot.
I also have some issues with a secondary funky explosion (of someone you killed) coming back at you and killing you counting as whole -1 self kill, so if it does count against you, it better be at the score value of the funky (which would be second lowest to DH I’m guessing) not the original weapon you killed them with, or the same as killing yourself with your original weapon.
That is a good point.
Right now this is the problem with shields… you can spend several shots hitting someone with one, and then get killed and you’ve gotten no money that round. So, as a result sometimes people just target the people without shields since they are easier cash. Or if you are going to target someone with a shield you use something like a funky bomb which will kill the shield and them in one blow.
If people got money off shield hits I think it would significantly weaken the power of shields… the power of them right now is in part the strategy of denying someone money and in disuading people from attacking you. It seems like a very good idea to me. Leave them as they are but give cash for taking down their power (maybe more cash for a force shield than a mag shield or small shield though). I’m not sure on which is the “right” amount of money, but something would encourage people to target people regardless of their shield status.
I don’t think a shield buster weapon is needed in main game, that’s something more that would be in a mod. but i would like to see heavy sandhogs beefed up so you could kill someone in a force shield with them. right now they do the same thing as a digger (no joke) to someone in a force shield.
OK, I’m really surprised by all of this. Has anyone considered the idea that AT’s account was hacked and this is someone else ranting in his place? I know that it’ unlikely probably, I mean who would bother to write all of this stuff acting like him, but wow… I don’t know AT too well, but the time’s I’ve talked to him in the past he was pretty reasonable and a nice fellow. No hard feelings AT if this is you, but you seem like a different person recently.
