I think it’s a good idea to have a better management system for keeping track of bugs but I still think we should have a place to talk about things like windows builds and stuff.

Could we at least integrate the developer forum into the feature requests/bugs forum so it’s “Feature Requests and Development”?

I first started downloading Scorched 3D in around the Fall of 2003. I think the version number in that time was in the high 20’s.

I don’t remember the exact occasion but I’m sure it had to do with my interest in the original Scorched Earth back in the DOS days. Every time I’d come over to my cousin’s house, he’d either show me the “new” Doom game that he’d bought or we’d play hot-seat mode in Scorched Earth. I consider it a fun part of my childhood growing up and we still converse about it to this day.

Since Scorched Earth doesn’t run too well on some current computers, I started to play Scorched 3D. It was an outlet for me to relive those days of playing Scorched Earth and terms like “Funky Bomb” and “No Kibitzing” brought back fond memories while at the same time incorporating modern-day technologies not found in the DOS incarnation. The most obvious of these technologies was to see Scorched in 3D for the first time. It was a huge “selling point” at the time and I remember it was one of the “what ifs…” my cousin and I would discuss all the time during the first days of 3D gaming. So to see something like this come to fruition really struck a chord with me.

Another modern day technology Scorched 3D brought with it was its community aspect and I presume this is the primary reason I’m still with the project. With this innovation I could talk to other Scorchers about the past and present of Scorched Earth while sending a Nuke their way. I could also speak my opinion about the game itself on the forums.

To play this game and to speak about it allows me to not let something I enjoyed so much as a kid die in the past. The concept of Scorched is a great one and I hope it continues on in some form or another down the road and I’m glad to have been a part of it in one form or another.

    That is why I “Scorch.”

    I’ve prepared a Scorched3D video player

    please test it here

I’m especially interested in feedback from people on slower connections and slower computers. This is scaled down HD content. I think it should play on pretty much anything, but connection speed may be an issue.

If the Scorched3D website were to incorporate a video player, a bit like this one at Nexuiz http://www.alientrap.org/nexuiz/ (but hopefully better)…

HD video is where it’s at these days – no question, but would I need to add a toggle for lower quality versions? Could we expect most users to be able to play this as is?

A quick post from anyone who tests this would be very helpful. Just a “yes, it played fine” or a “no, there was some stutter or a problem with load speed”, whatever.

    Thanks

This video didn’t have sound, right?

EDIT: NVM, sound worked the second time. I probably pressed the sound button and didn’t know it was muted.

It turned out into a junk. I can’t play so well like I could before.
It’s not anymore so … like it was before… Idk…

Could you elaborate on that? It’s good for us to have detailed reasons why someone doesn’t like the game during development.

soon we can scorch with mobile phone also. it is good thing about game also as
it is definitely going to boost our player base. and few of them will certainly
would like to enjoy game in full platform. waiting for symbian version of the
    game.

    Yes, and no.. sadly.

While the I-touch copy is well made and looks truely like an adapted version
of our project, it is cruely chopped off from us. Players with thier i-touch’s
will not see us. It is a completely seperate system. Since they chose
to develope it in secret with old copies of our code, they can’t access
our servers or use our Mods.

We can only hope that some of them will dig into the origin, and look for the
    real version.

Maybe if there is enough popularity, and if the i-touch players notice what
is missing, they may beg the designers to communicate with us for a better
    solution.

I really wish they would have worked with us more on this in linking the two games a little more. I think everyone would have benefited more from it.

You seem to know miles more about website code than I do so I’ll let you be the judge. While I did understand how the tutorial works on the youtube link I posted, it’s apparent that you have in mind something much more advanced and farther reaching than my mind can accomplish.

Think we should have a iPhone sub-forum when it’s released?

They have managed to register the scorched3d.com domain and will be setting up a community there. As yet there’s been no decision on how these two sites will be linked.

Doesn’t that make things kind’ve confusing to have one site for the PC version and one site for the iPhone version yet there is nothing that distinguishes the two in the URL?

How long will it be before the forum design is changed and therefore will utilize your code for embedding videos?

I might tackle that one later.

Right now, I am working on the tank on the first page. I have the base done. It’s actually more of a challenge than what I first thought because there aren’t a lot of good images around of it.
