Sleestak, did you back up your ids.xml file before you installed V39? I made sure to do that before I installed V39 here, then copied the old ids.xml back into my .scorched3d directory, and I had no trouble connecting to the server.

I’m afraid I can’t help much on the crashes. One thing that might help, though, would be to reduce the number of sound channels. I had performance issues here until I did that. The only crashes I get occur when I leave a game, and those don’t happen all the time; they happen to me less often in V39 than in V38.

The best way to get OpenAL is via a CVS checkout. The download page has instructions on getting it out of CVS.

To compile OpenAL: go to the linux subdirectory of your brand spanking new OpenAL source tree, and then use ./autogen.sh to generate your configure file. Then use ./configure –enable-optimizations to compile it. Become root, then use make install to install it. You should then make sure that /usr/local/lib is listed in your /etc/ld.so.conf file, and run ldconfig so that programs will know where to find the new library when they run.

Now that you have OpenAL out of the way, you will need to go over to the S3D source tree, and edit src/sound/Sound.cpp – on line 92, you will need to change ALubyte to ALchar for the compile to be successful.

On my system (CentOS 4, a rebuilt RHEL 4 clone), in order to configure S3D, I need to use ./configure –disable-freetypetest, but the compile worked OK after that.

So far, the crash-on-exit doesn’t happen as frequently as it did in 38.1, FWIW.

I’m looking at this thread, and wondering, WTF? Every time I’ve been on lately it’s been good fun! I think it’s time to chill out and blow each other up in peace… 😉

Hey, I resemble that remark! After I got ratted out for buying a shield, I decided not to use it, as I figured a funky storm was coming…

Sorry about your brother… but, IMHO, the video is a fitting tribute – the music fits quite well…

BTW, how are you filming your videos? Camcorder pointed at the screen, or some sort of capture utility? The videos I’ve seen are way cool…

    More stuff:

    Thinkpad T22 + Win2K Pro = no go (still) – system crashes.

    Thinkpad T22 + Win98 is OK. I haven’t tried enabling TexSubimaging.

On Win98 with the “bad” installer, I got a weird message from the installer that it couldn’t install a registry key in UNKNOWNFeatures – this was safely ignorable. I still had to dump the OpenGL32.dll and recreate the menu shortcut.

Looks like anyone not running XP or Windows Server 2003 is SOL.

I recall seeing messages that our “friend” is in Ukraine. What is he doing coming from optonline.net, then? That’s a cable ISP in the New York City area. Maybe he’s using a proxy on a compromised machine?
