I seriosly doubt that you are going to get any consensus on this topic. That said, as long as the opponent isn’t going after you verbally as well as trying to ‘single you out’ I wouldn’t make a big deal out of it.

Slightly relating to this topic I have a question of my own. Is it just me that think it seems like in a lot of games that you tend to be positioned very close to the same player round after round, more or less forcing a duel within the game? I seem to get this feeling relatively often, and espescially when facing an opponent less skilled (or more skilled for that matter) I can see how this can get frustrating (I know I think so when for example joining late and ending up next to the one guy with all the cash each round). It is a minor concern for me by all accounts, by I would still be interested in other players thoughts on this (imagined?) issue.

    BigBear:
As my real name Bjorn (actually with two dots above the o but nm that) means bear in swedish, that part of the nic is easily explained. The big was more or less added in an attempt to make the nic sound a little more … well more balanced or perhaps more interesting. No real thought or meaning behind that prefix, but I kind of like the abbrevation bb often used by fellow players so I stuck with it.

    TeddyBear:
The prefix teddy seemed an amusing contrast to the roaring polar bear I use as my avatar.

However the only alternate rout, as BOY hinted, is a different server designed for those rules.

Unfortunately, then you have two seperate sets of stats, and there’s the difficulty of getting people to show up and play the games, because they’ll just go to main anyway.

    I voted for … alt no 1!!!
No offense intended towards sw server, but I agree with cinny. Being to a certain extent interested in my ranking (perhaps glaring at my newly attained medal with a stupid blissful grin is somewhat unhealthy but hey, it puts a smile in my face) I’d rather go to main if possible. Anyhoooo, as far as I’m concerned I’m getting all the variation I crave at main as it is. There was just two intense ‘rules apply’ games played there with surprisingly many players adhering to the rules suggested as they were dropping in. It’s all good if you ask me!

And as far as rookies becoming regulars, sort the main stats according to time played. Then you’ll find me, brain, soul and jock all in the top 15 :D. ME (:) is no 20 although he hasn’t been on lately. Not bad at all!

It has generally been agreed that if all players on a server agree to a particular rule set, that rule set is in play UNTIL either a player joins that does not agree to the rule set, OR one of the agreeing players changes his mind. Once one of those conditions are met, then all gloves are off for everybody. No one has any right to complain about player X breaking the “rules”. Nor can one complain about a newly joining player not playing the “rules” if the “rules” have not been presented to them.

That was spot on! Noone should be allowed to play until they have read and understood Ebo’s post ( for anyone who might not get that I’m deliberately exaggerating, well I am 😛 ). My hat is off for you Ebo :D.

Bear, I hope yo dont think i thought you were whining, I wasnt accusing anyone of whining, I thought your comments were intelligent. I actually agree with you I think, just not really sure what you meant when you said you would be “worried” by more common offensive dirt tactic. the description you gave was a good reason to dirt the enemy 😕 . the thing is, after a good dialague like you and comedown have added ….people may have to just aggree to disagree and come up with their own personal policy / stratagy. that just leave spamming or griping… 😛 I can do both, but seems those round here like spamming the most.

    OK, no spam yet

That’s also exactly what diggers do when used offensively. 😉

I do no agree that the two have exactly the same effect, but further elaboration seems pointless anyway so just forget it.

I wasn’t looking too whine, just debate an issue I had. But hey, never mind that just bring on the spammers or whatever …

I agree with apache on the subject of making everyone wait just because someone dirted you.

It’s basically the same as saying “don’t shoot at me, or I’ll ruin everyones fun.”

Or, simply “I can shoot you, but you’re not allowed to shoot at me!”

    That’s just childish, mandy.

Dirting other people is perfectly “legal”. If someone dirts you, you don’t throw a temper tantrum and try to “punish” everyone else just because you weren’t prepared. You either dig yourself out, or you skip your move.

The people this thread is about are repeated self-dirt’ers. They are the ones no-one likes.

I’m gonna stay out of the allowed-vs-not-allowed-expressions-of-frustration debate, but feel that I at the risk of repeating myself have to make a comment. Am I the only one who is worried what will happen to the game if more people start using offensive dirting? Even if you have diggers or riot bombs to dig out, your available rotation angle will be far less than 360 deg. Very crippling! And if you dig upwards you will be limited to 50+ deg vertical angles, all while sitting in the middle of a wok pan. Roooooooooooooooollertime!!! Even more crippling! As I said before offensive dirting is all about taking away the ability of the opponent and none about utilizing your own skill imho. This is not the direction in which I’d like to see gameplay heading. Personally I do not agree with the notion that an unbalanced weapon should be left untampered in the game because it was there in the original.

This is not meant as criticism to earlier replies. I’m just looking for input from the community on an instance of genuine concern.

I agree that there are too few people playing at the present to warrant more servers. I also think that all these ideas for a decent and balanced limit system however well intended are futile in the sense that no matter what you will be stepping on somebodys toes.

    Problems with no limit:
As it is now there are some noobs that are pissed over the fact that there are pros playing too often on beginners. A fact that by itself should tell you something about the number of players regularly playing the game. Some even quit the game as soon as a low ranking player connects. This obviously isn’t any good for the sake of getting new recruits. A tip for the noobs:
    – Use the available resource and ask for some pointers (a lot of pros will really try to help if they can).
There is also a lot of (at least some) players that can be regularly seen playing on main but refuse to go to main if there are any good players there. How will one ever become a good player if one never play against good players?

    Problems with having a limit:
A lot of the games I’ve played on main recently have started as a result of starting out on beginners because main was empty. Then after a while another pro connects and we decide to move the action to main. I have no patience for hanging around alone for 30 mins on main watching an empty screen hoping someone will join. Please don’t take away this opportunity to make the wait enjoyable by excluding me and others by inserting a limit.

As I see it there is no ultimate way to solve this problem. It is up to the individual to conduct themselves in a way that ensures that things will run a smoothly as possible. It is the responsibility of the admins to handle those who will not comply. I’d prefer any day of the week having an admin in charge over issues rather than a filter excluding a player based on stats. Maby something has to be done in time as more players get addicted :D, but for now lets keep things the way they are.

I don’t really have a problem with dirt as a strategic weapon as such. The problem with dirt is that practically the only time you see it in use is when someone for one reason or another buries themselves over and over simply to annoy other players.

I like gavin’s idea, since it actually adresses the problem with players who are just trying to mess the game up by repetedly using dirt defensively. I would like to see a cost increase as well though. The reason for this is that I think the crippling power if used as an offensive weapon is so great. Most other weapons and defensive gadgets effect your own chances to eliminate an opponent or to survive their attacks. Offensively used dirt effect your opponent’s chances to effectively retaliate. IMHO there is a significant difference between these to categories and that the low price tag for such a powerful weapon might need to be reconsidered.

I’m gonna go with Mandy’s opinion and state that this is funny indeed! Considering I’m totally inept at masquerading as mysterious this speculation regarding my identity is simply hillarious.

Sorry AT, but I have no idea what you are talkning about and I suspect that won’t be accomplished ever regarding this subject. All I can say is that I’m noone else and I’m not part of any grand conspiracy aimed at keeping you from your place in the rankings. My soul and only purpose here is playing the game and having fun (which has been accomplished so far for example by playing solo sessions against you which were very educational).
