This will be fun, count me in! I’ll play for any team that will have a rusty ‘ol Bear flying their colours. 😀

Um, the USA is a representative republic.

I am going to assume that you are pulling my leg. In the case you are not …

… no it isn’t. The term republic refers to it being a representative democracy where a subset of the people are elected to govern as opposed to a direct democracy where everyone would be involved in everything. 😉 😛

Ok, but watch this 10 minute vid. It pretty much describes the path the US is on today.

Err the US is a representative democracy. That didn’t make any sense at all. All he did was confusing his audience trying to redefine established terms. I get the point he was trying to get across, but AFAIC it makes him look rather stupid when he confuses democracy vs republic (which does not make any sense as per my first sentence in this post) with democrats vs republicans.

I am sure there are those believe that certain scientific theories are infallable. However, the whole point of science that it’s all a best bet. A theory is only valid until proven wrong or expanded on to more accurately describe the world/universe. There no such thing as a perfect theory. If we stumbled onto one we would never know it anyways, as we are restricted by our point of reference.

A lot of people consider what the church says as myth. I’m not going to quote the examples here, we all heard them before. But consider the alternative we are supposed to accept.

The Big Bang. That is a something from nothing theory. Err, i think our scientists went a little too far back for their own good.

I take it that you refer to the question of how the materials that provided the possibility of such an event came to be? That problem is the same for every theory though. If God made everything, who made God?

Dark matter. Something you cannot see or detect, but it’s there.

It is? I thought that was God?

Someone once said “One of the hardest things to overcome is the illusion of knowledge” They are basing “Dark Matter” on Newtons theory. Well maybe his theory needs to be tweaked for the very large, much like it had to be for the very small. Instead they produce a mythical matter. I think everyone is nuts.

Dark matter is a hypothesis, not a scientific fact. If it is a correct model or not remains to be seen.

I do not deny the globe is warming. I do not deny we have an impact on global warming. Obviously we must.

What I’d like to know is how much compared to other global cyclical events. What really angers me are politicians that look to capitalize on this issue.

What I can assure you is…….the Earth will reach a tipping point before anything is done. That is human nature.

I am sort of thinking along the same lines regarding this issue. To be honest I am not totally convinced either way. As for polititians it’s disgusting at times I agree but then again it’s also their job to take a stand in important issues. We are all hypocrites more or less, but the ones that really bother me are the ones that dare to claim otherwise. For example they have had these articles series in the papers over here entiteled “THE CLIMATE THREAT” (yes with caps ‘n all) where they among other things describe how YOU can help save the world etc etc. So ppl start buying organic foods, looking for merchandize with environmentally approved stickers and what not. Offcourse all this stress over the impending doom is quite stressful, so then the whole family hop on a plane to spend their holiday in Thailand. It’s just so stupid.

I’d say the comparison between the patriot act and the inquisition is spot on.

Admin and developer are two quite distinct roles. Even if they were not I fail to see how any code changes/server settings would make players less able to abuse the somewhat loose regulations regarding trucing on the FFA servers.
How about some concrete examples rahter than talking about “the reluctance of the admins to implement code changes that make certain activities less rewarding and thus, less likely to occur”? The only thing I can recall is your suggestion to reduce the shot timer. That would hardly solve this problem though (or any other for that matter if you ask me but I am sure that you are not). So what have you got for us?

    @ yusuf
No need for such language. Noone is getting banned, but surely there are other ways to display your disagreement, yes?

    @ che
The situation you describe is irritating indeed. However, unless trucing is banned alltogether, I don’t see what the admins can do about it really except mediate. As a player pretty much all you can do is ignore it or fight fire with fire. Personally I would just leave the server but I realize that is not an option that will suit everyone.

    @ Romm
If you want answers maby you should start asking questions outside of the “What is the meaning of life, the universe and everything” category? Out of curiosity, just how is making changes to the code (which btw is waaaaaaaaaay off base in terms of what the admins should be doing) going to solve the particular problem described in this topic? The same question goes for changing the server configuration with the tools available to the admins. While you are at it why don’t you share this piece of advice you recommend che to heed?

DeathBal – I completely agree with you. I think our views are almost identical; at least in the respect of government as we know it. You are right – I meant we’re a democratic-republic. A pure democracy, as tested out in Greece originally, had such large transactions costs that it failed.

Since we are knitpicking, you do realize that this “pure” democracy you refer to did not include women and slaves right? 😉 Democracy in it’s absolute form is just as impossible to implement as Marxism.

Boy – You scare the hell out of me. 😀 Haha, just playing around. I agree with Str^^8 that the Bible has been translated over time so much that it is hard to tell. About 10 years ago I was much more into that, but remember reading that King James (for the KJ version) intentionally had parts of the new testament changed. For example, homosexually was added in as being sinful and drunkards, too. I’m just skeptical, but to each his own.

I think the notion of an impending apocalyse and an earthly kingdom of God fits perfectly in this topic among the rest of the idealistical pipe dreams. To each his own indeed.

II. Responsibilities of the Server Administrators :

I have a recent e-mail from Gavin stating something resonablly close to this :

The server adminstrators are in charge of making changes to the settings and even though some of your ideas seem sound, it is up to the admins to decide upon implementation of changes.

Armed with this information, and before the release of Version 42, I asked if the group was satisfied with the settings and later suggested that prior to going public it would be a good idea to look things over and talk among yourselves. Several of you now seem unhappy about the stats. Funny stuff

The server admins can’t change how the skill calculation for the server stats is being conducted. As for your question about if they were happy with things in general what did you expect them to answer? If you wanted a more detailed answer maby you should have asked for someting more specific. Just a thought …
