    Loaded the game back up today. Music kicked in, don’t think I ever expressed how beautiful it is. Haunting, and nostalgic for sure.

    Hmm Hello there,

    I have never encountered this issue. Its been a while since I dusted off the mod. Might have to take a look at it soon. They dont fire with shields on you say? Interesting.

    No projectiles explode on contact with a 3d surface.
    They explode on contact with a bounding box or sphere.

    All tanks have the same bounding box regardless of model size. No model is ever larger than the actual bounding box unless specified manually via the console via the tank size command.

    Just aim for the center of every tank, you have the same chance regardless of model.

    The image below is the actual engine rendered area for impact. As you can see even event models like trees, parachute packs, stage hazards etc all have their own bounding boxes and spheres.

    Hey sorry for the late reply. Been doing everything I can to avoid being homeless lately.

    In my archive scavenger mod is stored in the oldmods folder, meaning it would require a rather hefty update to be playable to the current version. I’m afraid I just dont have the time. I haven’t even updated awe since last summer.

    I dont know if thrax updated it for the new version before his hiatus. Unfortunately during his update cycle i was focused solely on AWE at that time.

    Hmm. I think there’s a way to get a log file for server events. It would have to be more basic than that I think, maybe flashing lights solely when players are killed.

    You would probably have to write either a mini program to hook into server events log file, or go more in depth and write one for actual engine events within the C++ framework.

    I know for sure chat logs are recorded. So if you could mod every weapon explosion to ping the chat (not too difficult, just time). Something could be rigged up via the xml, assuming your controller could hook into the chat/server log.

    maybe something could be done with LUA, theres a handy xml script you could potentially call functions with. You would have to tie this to basic events too though, like death or explosions.
    Honestly Im not 100% sure how you would do this without having rewrote the engine or hard coding a plugin. Not sure what kinds of caps Gavin put on the engine either, most likely constrained to game functions to limit the potential for malicious activities.

    Yes and no.
    Merge was hosted a wee bit back by Thrax, but I haven’t seen him in ages. He stopped hosting unfortunately.

    I updated shockwave a little while ago, during v43 I believe, unfortunately it was just a personal experiment.

    Apoc was removed, as it was getting too out of date, and we decided to package AWE with the base game instead. AWE needed frequent updates, so we decided to make it a separate download again so it could edit local user mod files without any issues.

    Raptor, Pink Panther, Scavenger, Stoneage, Swars, FunkyTown, Kid, Opscorched, Roofmod, Sniper, Superheroes, and D-Day haven’t seen the light of day in quite a while.

    All of these mods would require extensive updates and maintenance, and unfortunately any time I spend modding goes into fixing and maintaining AWE.

    I have thought about updating shockwave again, would be a fun experiment.

    Everyone I have ever shown S3D to has thought it was an awesome game, however the controls and hardware hold them back. PC gaming, though on the rise, is still a very niche market compared to consoles and mobiles. That’s just the reality of today’s consumer market.

    If we want to seriously compete, and I mean making dreams become reality, we need to invest in those markets.

    When I play a game, I always sit down and ponder what it could be, even AAA titles. Nothing has brought me more satisfaction than imagining the possibilities of a re-done scorched earth.

    The next step was to ponder what would it require?

    – Need a centralized communication and social system (steam,battlelog)

    – Need to harness next gen graphics technology, and variable level of detail across multi platforms (mobiles,consoles,pcs)

    – Need an art direction, marketing scheme, and financial backing

    – Need a dedicated development team

    Deep down I know the mother of all games has amazing potential, its play style, addictive qualities, history, and atmosphere all lend to that. It is an under represented game genre in the market, and I believe it could be a winner if people could invest the resources.

    I suppose what I am saying is that I recognize the potential and I agree with everything said so far.

    Recently I have been privately musing to myself about starting a kickstarter campaign showcasing the current iteration of s3d as sort of a base-work or demo of what it could be with next gen graphics. If it gained attention it would increase the activity here, and allow us to hire talent and potentially make our vision come to life. Its just a musing for now of course, nothing serious.

    I do miss the excitement this place once carried. It was a fountain of humor, wisdom, and humility. It would be awesome to share that with the world at large.
