Pom: I understand. do what you can, when you can.

LT: Yes, i get crapped on for trying to get others to share my pleasure
in variety. You’ve also made mods and had no-one see or enjoy them.
How does it make you feel..

Peanut / Bear: Respect isn’t granted, it’s earned. After having other
attempts at advertizing shot down and burried, a psudo humorous
method is less political. Maybe a sence of humor or appreciation
for light sarcasm is needed. I diddn’t add a choice of “I Hate Mods!”..
You’re making me think i should have..

Rommel: You play and make mods. This poll really doesn’t apply to
some people. I’m trying to reach those that avoid them, and find out why.

Parasti / Deathbal: Like default/apoc with new maps? Classic is such.
No lasers, new maps, and core weapons / defences from bob’s ancient
    original apoc.

Vitos: MCB doesn’t really count as a mod.. but it’s a start.

Jurily: Stats have always existed on the mod-servers. Paris has
mastered 1st place on 3 stats-series already, across all mods available.
If one old man can do that, how hard can mods be.. 😀

    This isn’t an inquisition, it’s a playfull discussion. I don’t care that
some people prefer to stay with the default, i just want to know why
and if I can somehow interest a few into something more.

Well, to me it feels like an attack, that theres something wrong with us on a genetic level (I know im walking into something here).
As BB said, promote the mods, by making it clear that you are promoting them, not making it seem like we’ll somehow be swapping ‘sides’ by going there.
Give an overview of the different mods, like what their core valvue is, simplicity, high skill level, big weapons, etc….

As for saying MCB is not a mod, well, you have pretty de-valued the one mod I really like, so I guess theres no hope for me (although pathers?? ice mod is pretty cool, I do like the ice)

    i am missing the option

I DONT WANT TO PLAY MODS.

i have been playing a long time thrax. what do you think we are discussing while playing?

oh yeah, dont go play mods, mods sux?

i never heard anybody say anthing close to that.

there are lots of mods i dont play. only played scavenger *a few times*, i loved the toy box *played there many times*, stone age *once* and apoc *around two or three times*.

i simply dont like to play mods. so what do you want me to vote for?

this option is missing and i think this poll sux or are you just frustrated nobody is playing on your mod? i honestly dont get that poll….

    Sincerely,

    mandy

You all seem to think this is a “Join the Thrax Fan-Club” attempt.
(and yes, i know that phrase has been used..)
It’s not about a single mod, or any that i happen to host. It’s about
    game variety in general.

Brain-Damage is perfectly skilled enough to convert and host ToyBox
again. And why he doesn’t.. is up to him I guess. I’m not the only
person who has put effort into creating more for this game, and have
never claimed to be. I just happen to be passionate about preserving
everyone’s hard work for all to enjoy.

Those that don’t want to leave the default hosted set aren’t lesser,
and I have nothing against their choice. I’m just trying to learn why.

When Bobirov first created Apoc, it was probably just as much shunned.
But then Gavin included it in the core, and it’s become natural to think of
it as the only other mod. Now that many other interested people have
helped develop more, it’s not feasable to add them all to the core. Much
of thier work isn’t even known by the main-stream players.

Peanut wants a list of mods, thier themes, and thier contents. Would
you like me to display a list of all the threads for each one? Thier details
and progress have been documented for all to see.

I would add two more options to your poll: 1. I don’t want to spend the time learning the capabilities/limitations of all the new weapons/shields in a mod. And, 2. I tried to download some of the mods and I got a message saying I didn’t have the minimum # of kills to download, so I gave up.

Regarding 1, I somewhat fall into this category, the mods that I like – Sniper (still waiting for an update Boy), StoneAge, and RollerMod (until it became useless w/ the bouncy rollers) are all simple/skill mods that have weapons very similar to Main. The strategies are very similar and I can just fall right into playing. With the more complicated mods this is not the case, especially if you are playing online and have only 30 – 45 seconds to read the weapon names/descriptions on the buy screen. It takes at least a couple games in a new mod to figure out a basic strategy. A lot of people don’t want to take the time.

    2. In your zeal against “Mod Leachers”, you have made it difficult to try the mods on your server (I know this poll is about mods in general, but you host the most mods). At the very least I would change your “error” message to read “You must record at least 5 kills on the StoneAge Mod before you can download this mod.” The way it reads now, most people will not know what to do to try out Swars or the other mods you host. I would think that you would like “mod leachers” if your goal is to get more people to try mods. They might download the mod and try it offline for a while, then when they are comfortable enough with it (as noted above) play online. Even if they only play offline, how is that bad?

P.S. I played about 5 rounds of StoneAge last night and one of the bots (ughME ?) didn’t shoot at all and the other one never came close to hitting me, you might want to check on them (maybe change the oil or the timing belt).

I removed all kill limits when v41.3 was cleanly released.

If you want sniper hosted, I have the current on-file. It’s the first
i’ve heard of someone interested in it in ages.

And i just redid the targetting methods of the cave-men.

I’ve always said to any player in places I monitor, I can’t fix
something if i don’t know about it.

As for Scorch-Wars, it is where we pushed every limit in landscaping
and environment interaction. And as such, yes.. it is larger.
So far there have been over 45 downloads of the core-pack from the
off-site host I provide it from. Picking up the core-pack before joining
the game-server will allow players to recieve it more quickly the first
time, and update the most current with minimal delay.
However, of those many core downloads.. less than a handfull have
experienced the rest of the mods features by joining the game-server.

I didnt say I wanted it, I said it would be better than your current strategy.

The only option that fits at all would be 1. However, were everyone I know to start playing a mod I didn’t like for example I would not follow suit for that reason alone.

For example asking “what is your excuse for not playing mods” implies that your mods are perfect and that the problem lies with the players.

But Bigbear… My Mods (Pinkpanther, Raptor) Are perfect…. Well Raptor is anyways….

    Missing options:

    1. I don’t feel I’m good enough for that yet
    2. I tend to go where people are actually playing. Getting beat up by a bot with a weapon I’m not familiar with is just irritating.
    3. Stats.

Pinkpanthermod has options 2 and 3. as for option 1 I don’t really know what to say here. personally Ive been playing poorly in mains lately, but I have been doing so on purpose.

Hmmm how does that old platitude about respect fit into this context? It refers to who exactly? When was it ever political or even controversial to advertize mods? The point is that you don’t advertize, you complain that ppl are not “brave” or “openminded” enough to try something new. There is a difference you know.

You’re making me think i should have..

If a joke fails to impress the audience, shouldn’t the first impulse be to reconsider the joke rather than accusing the listeners of lacking a sense of humour? And for the last time, I don’t hate mods. Never did, never will.
