    Dear Moderator(s) :

If there is an appropriate thead for this topic I didn’t find it.

If not and you think it wise to group them in one place, then
making this thread a sticky will keep it in plain view.

There is a brief discussion about the security certificate error
message in the quote of the day. A message that might cause
someone to be alarmed. If you wish to move it, please feel free.

    Best wishes,

    Rommel

P.S. – After further consideration … It may be good to have a
few people set up auto-mail to see if this is a recurring issue.

I’m logging in using the https: option and it may be that the
BBS is reading my post headers and transcribing them verbatim.

If so, let me know when you’re through testing and I’ll stop.

P.P.S. – If I’m right and you can find LaptopsDaddy, I’d wager
that he could solve this problem without too much difficulty.

Well….. I got your PM but it did not give me the error message =D> But it is the Https that is causing the problem, I went into my trash folder in Gmail and followed some older topic reply messages and the only ones that had problems were your posts! it is all your fault Rommel! 😆

For me, I will just switch over to the Https, if you cant beat em….. DH them 😯 I meant join them! but it might scare others off who are not familiar with the site.

    Hi Direwolf :

If you set your mail to send you a notice when you receive a
PM, we can see if it sends you the https header when I PM
you. If you have set this thread to auto-alert, you should
have something to investigate with this message or the next
one if you haven’t already flagged the thread.

If you use the https option to log in, you’ll have to accept
the security certificate. Two Americans … logging onto a
foreign website … using encryption … KAWSIME !

    Welcome brother!

    Take good care,

    Rommel

Your PM did not give me the error message, but I do not think it will because the link takes me to the inbox and not to your message directly, I can go to the S3D forums and access the quote of the day messages without error, the only time it would happen was when the link took me directly to your post. I don’t know if that helps define the problem, hope it helps.

The PM feature takes the currently in-use web address, so yea it’ll only effect people who receive https links.

I don’t think it’s worth resolving though, too much effort or money to change it for the number of people who use HTTPS or the number of people likely to receive such links and not trust it.

    Hi Again :

I just started a PM to you from your last post. The url
that was inserted into the PM was https … So, it’s
not confined to the offtopic forum.

Yes, it all helps. The more information we can gather, the
better. Hopefully we can get someone else in here soon.

    Thank you,

    Rommel

    BUMP – BUMP – BUMP – BUMP!

The lack of a response to this thread is not surprising guys.

    Note to LaptopsDaddy :

The word “guys.” should end in-line with BUMP!.

    hi. sorry, missed the thread.

    https://www.phpbb.com/support/documentation/3.0/adminguide/acp_general.php

i think it’s probably just an option that needs adjusting. i don’t know if i have access to do it. if i do, i don’t think i should. not my place. could be a reason for it that im not aware of.

find the bit on that page titled ‘Server URL Settings’. might be that?

hi. i guess this is probably better as a forum thread in case anyone else has thoughts. hope it’s ok to paste snips from the PM.

i remember i went to stupid lengths to keep the forum templates working in IE 6. it was quite a restriction. i’ve just noticed that the home page is badly broken, though, which is a mistake. im sure i tested. it’s also slightly off in 7. i’ll fix that asap.

far as laying out forum posts by line widths and spacing, or using == as underlines. it won’t look the same cross-browser on this site or any other, unfortunately, not without custom fonts, and even there you’ll see slight differences. it has to do with varying hinting and rendering technology and in the latest browsers, notably firefox, kerning can make a difference.

i’d like to help. i know you put a lot into your quotes thread, for example. personally i think it’s awesome and read it regularly.

if i can do it, how would you feel about custom bb tags? perhaps something like [half] for narrow posts and [title] for titles?

…recently come to my attention that Google Chrome
displays your web pages completely differently than MS-IE.

Having no access to tablets, hand helds, etc., I’ve been
trying to use a narrow format in case small displays make
full length lines, hard to read.

Having spent considerable time recently, trying to use a
formal letter format, I was crushed to see the list feature
was indenting my nicely centered text in IE, nearly off the
    page in Chrome.

Old version BBS, displayed under IE Ver. 6 :

The equal sign seperator above, was composed to end
under the k in quick. When preveiwed or posted, it ends
    under the e in be.

    Hi Again :

Please feel free to Insert smilies where you desire.

No, but thank you for the offer and the nice words.
As far as I’m concerned, the toolbox is sufficient.

Correct you are, and every new browser or version
or HTML upgrade produces additional challenges.

It seems better to use basic formating than to post
stuff that looks good for some and like crap to others.

Did the end of BUMP – BUMP – BUMP – BUMP!
line up the with the end of guys as I hoped ?

Did the end of BUMP – BUMP – BUMP – BUMP!

    ========================================

No problem on the PM but I see that I’ve violated
one of the basic laws of English. Fortunately the
punishment is nothing like violating English Law.

I before E except after C with a few exceptions.

If I should post yours, do you want me to snip the part
where you said you wanted to taste the Queen’s Nuts ?

Oh yeah … in case you happen to place that bet …
all things considered, Dry Roasted seems best to me.

    Best wishes,

    Rommel

P.S. – Oops, wrong message perhaps but the wrong word for
certain. Previewed … I’ve been seeing many instances of
inverted ie combinations in my posts lately. Funny stuff …

P.P.S. – This has nothing to do with formatting or the error
message but instead … imagination. Did you or any of you,
picture wild animals drinking out of the river, surrounded by
bottled water on the shore and floating down the river ?

Or perhaps a dying fish sucking on the cap of a bottle ?

If you have a better imagination than I do, perhaps you
imagine that this episode will cause the Conservatives to
rethink their position on the EPA and industrial regulation.

There is nothing more critical to conserve than our water.

    All done now … Byeee

P.P.P.S. – Both the old and new BBS pages look great in IE,
Firefox and Chrome. It is only the posted parts that seem to
display unusually, with the most noticable being Chrome.
