    While gaming a few nights ago and watching the U.S. Presidential election results coming in, it appeared that the States rumored to have lower than normal intellingence were voting Republican. Mentioning this, I referred to them as the stupid states. This was a rash assumption on my part and something I thought deserved a closer inspection.

    As strange as it may seem, I could not find this data available on the net. In oder to satisfy my curiosity I combined the electorial map with the list of the intelligence level of the states*. It wasn’t as lopsided as I had first thought. It seems a great many stupid states voted Democratic as well.

    Something that REALLY surprised me was that California is ranked lower than Alaska and that Arizona was ranked the lowest. Maybe that helps explain why McCain thought Palin was a political genius. One more thing …

    To the People of West Virginia:

    Please note your ranking and find the states ranked lower. You have been ridiculed as being stupid for too long. To find your state, look for a pink one that looks like the picture on the tag on your truck.

    Edit # 1 November 16 – The state by state SAT scores that I located were not an accurate reflection of a states overall intelligence level. Drop outs and those not taking the exam were not figured into the results. This rendered the data useless as the sole component for making a comparrison.

    I see New Jersey is ranked “4”. A state with a 36 billion dollar debt ranked 4? Wouldn’t smarter people elect better representatives? In fact, if you were to find the 5 states with the largest debt, wouldn’t they all be blue states?

    I don’t know about this dumb state smart state stuff. I think it’s just sour grapes.

    BTW, there is also this little issue in the courts as to Mr. Obama’s birth certificate. He has yet to produce a valid one and as of right now, refuses to do so. I’m thinking he’ll need to do that before long.

    PA was originally Dutch I think, so these aren’t my people. From the video footage you linked, it appeared that the people may have been Black Dutch. If so, they were reputed to be fierce and barbaric warriors in their past. It appeared that the man arrested was either totally insane or intent on starting a riot in the hopes of spoiling the festivities and dying as a martyr.

    In either case, the police may have saved his life and prevented massive destruction of public and private property by removing him for his own protection and I do not fault them on their handling of the situation.

      Side Note : You may want to look into the Grandfather Mountain – Highland Games, if you want to meet my people, I’m Scot-Irish.

    Yes, New Jersey is ranked high in spite of their problems but this is not a world ranking, it’s a state ranking. It’s more like, among the Three Stooges, rank them by intellingence level. Moe is not smart, but he appears to be a little smarter than Larry and Curley. Please keep this in mind.

    As for sour grapes, no, but perhaps you misunderstood the process. The list I used was developed long before this election. I simply took the numbers and applied them to the various states to see if a pattern could be discerned. Nothing I did was intended to misrepresent the election results but instead to try to help understand them.

      Side Note: The link to the intellingence study was provided in case anyone wanted to check the statistics or how they were compiled.

    The birth state issue is an entirely seperate topic but ….

    You may have missed the recent legislation that over turned the Constitutional requirement for birth inside the United States. This was done to ensure that John McCain was eligable to become President, regardless of his actual birth location. No ammendment, no Constitutional Convention, no objection from the Supreme Court, and no mass uprising by the people. No surprise to me.

    For all practical purposes, The Constitution of the United States of America is nothing more than a historical reference document. It is of little significance to those charged with control of the goverment; We, the people of the United States of America.

    In order to understand better how we have gotten ourselves into the fix you alluded to, perhaps it would be good to understand the purpose of the Constitution as detailed in the Preamble.

    We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

    If it actually performs as desired, then each vilolation costs us a portion of the things above. Blessings to our Posterity (children) are indeed doubtful. Most likely, they will be little more than slaves, chained by the debts of their parents.

    Inheritance? I’ll pass, I’m fine, really.

    It seems strange that anyone would be angered by my revelation of the intelligence levels of the various states. The only exception being someone that felt stupid in comparisson to their neighbors, discovering that their neighbors were considered stupid.

    If so, then perhaps they should consider Arizona. Surely most anyone that can read could live there and at least feel semi-intelligent.

    If there was anything about my map that was not factual, I will gladly make a proper, timely and fitting retraction if you would be so kind as to point out my errors.

    Intelligence comparisons by state are silly. However, there does seem to be a very strong link between republican states, the hyper religious deep south and poverty.

    This is expected. god concepts are always more prevalent among the impoverished. People with nowhere else to turn. Old school values are the root of any main-stream religion, and the republicans draw support by aligning themselves with these values.

    Youll see from the maps Ive attached.

    In targeting this section (in effect, the ill-educated under classes), the republicans can make use of scare tactics (ie against those who dont know any better), while relying on established religious zealotry in order to sustain their position.

    Seems very obvious to me. Intelligent, educated people, are less likely to get drawn in by scare mongering. (‘obamas a terrorist’, ‘muslims are the enemy’, ‘jesus will smite you’ and so on ; )

    Ps:
    Comparing wealth, education and voting choice, it might be worth considering the scale of the divide in the republican states. Its my understanding that many of the richest people in the country live in the south. (‘Old money’, profit from slavery, oil etc). no doubt the select few have their own reasons for voting republican.

    Now I AM Po’ed. Wasn’t the Bob Newhart show about the yahoos Larry, Daryl & Daryl from New Hampshire, wasn’t the movie Fargo full of characters from North Dakota ? Stereotypes all. EVERY state has its boneheads…..I bet even yours does.

    I could go on…but Romme….You have too much free time on your hands. Trying to reconcile how “stupid ” your state is with whatever else your trying to prove is just whacking off.

    I was born at Fort Sam Houston, Texas (Dad was recalled by the Air Force for Korea,where he died, this after 50 missions in WW2, check out Ploesti ,where bombers came back with cornstalks in the bomb bay doors)….was raised in Memphis,Tennessee, where Dad and Mom were from ….and moved to Florida in 1978. All states that you rank as apparently not too bright.

    I’ve had to start over two times from less than zero after two nasty divorces (got to admit marrying those two women was stupid) and I’ve run a small business since 1995 with two locations, admin my own network,website and anything else I have to……but I’m smart enough to realize my limits and when to defer to others.

    You sir, need to realize yours. Torture numbers enough and they’ll say anything…thats all you’re doing.

    Trying to equate Republicans as stupid and Liberals as smart is flawed. Are you saying I was smart when I was young and got stupid as I got older?

    Yes the Republicans target the religious. But do the Democrats not target the poor also? The Democrats and many of their supporters would like you to believe they draw the elites while the GOP the religious poor. But in reality their base consists of primarily secular poor. This is how I see it.

    GOP…..the poor that turn to God.

    Democrat….The poor that turn to goverment with their hands out. Maybe that does make them smarter, but I doubt those are the elites we keep hearing about.

    I would not try to connect IQ with Democrats. Primarily because of my experiences with people. Most people I come in contact with at work, friends, or any place for that matter here in NJ, the Republicans I meet are usually the Supervisor, the store manager, the accountant, or just come across as very intelligent. On the flip side are the Democrats. Usually, but not always, clueless and poor. But this is just from my perspective in the state of NJ. It may be quite different in other states. Just not here in NJ.

    For this reason I’ve always found it odd when people made the connection with Democrats and intelligence. Because I don’t see it. Maybe when NJ is 50 billion in debt i’ll see it. 🙂

    It wasn’t my ranking, I only reported what I was able to find. I wanted the SAT exam results by state but wasn’t able to retrieve that information.

    If you read what I said, I didn’t draw any conclusions from the map. I left that to the reader. From my perspective, that map proved nothing at all.

    Anyone that was upset by that map, that isn’t upset by the things that are happening all around them might find living in Arizonia to be very nice.

    Granted, my state by state comparrison was not particulary revealing even if the numbers used were correct. Perhaps county by county would have been better but generally we vote as a state.

    The statistics that were used to determine the various state intelligence levels were interesting and seemed to be a least partially scientific.

    Although supposedly seriously lacking in intelligence, California commands a large portion of the electors required to win the election. That was, to me, the most surprising part of my investigation.

    West Virginia, gave us some of America’s most notable rocket scientists. California gave us … Gee I can’t of anything except maybe Press 1 for English.

    Stereo types – Yeah, I’m looking for a Quadraphonic system. They play 8-tracks in surround sound!

    the stupid states are California and NY, both want/need a bailout, paid for by taxpayers from all states nice and fair like…. hmmm, who runs those states… Oh yeah, the Democrats! 😡

    since poverty is subjective to income and income and cost of living are not equal, the poverty stricken areas (the largest are on reservations) are not accurate to the actual poor. I’d bet good money there are more poor people in New York city than in my entire state.

    Anyway, the only important thing is that America is stupid for electing a socialist President, but worse than that he’s practically a terrorist with all the friends he’s got. He may as well work for Hamas.

    He doesn’t even have one single idea to fix anything and when the Bush tax cuts expire (which Obama counts in his tax cut) we’ll all get a nice tax hike accross the board.

    Say hello to the new nationalized American economy folks. Get ready to drive General Motors of “the people”.

    Don’t forget to buy more guns while you still can, and oh, don’t forget to save money for private school (lets hope private school will still be legal) so your children aren’t forced to recide muslim prayers while you’re not looking.

    OK I don’t like to respond to threads like these cuz they lead to bad things. Obama is my new President do I like it…no. Will I back him…yes cuz he is my new president. Rom posted this thread for nothing more than informational purposes and I for one liked the fact that he was unbiased and just posted facts. If we should be mad about anything it should be about LD who knows nothing of our country except what he reads on the internet and the fact that he is an athiest who has a closed mind. As far as poverty level… I’ve been living in it for years. I own two houses one that has 2 acres attached to it and my wife stays home to mind the house. So take your poeverty level and stick up your old wazoo LD! We have voted as a country and a decision has been made. Let’s back our president, have faith in our checks and balances system, and see what happens. After all that is why we limit the office to four years no?

    Its interesting that you guys seem so divided (America). Many of your blue states, and obama himself, have policies that seem extremely right wing by western european standards.

    Republican party policies (those widely publicised), are right-wing to the point of absurdity. In any other advanced democracy in the world, usa republican leaders would be held up as catalysts for racial hatred, and mocked left and right for aligning themselves with religious cults.

    Mccain and Palins campaign slogans were shocking. In fact, questionably legal. (Also, Palin would have been laughed out of the country in uk for being an idiot).

    ‘Pledge of allegiance’, ‘God bless us’. Thats not the way we do things in multi-cultural, ethnically diverse developed countries.

    (This is where I make the mandatory Nazi reference). (Tis the internet, after all)

    Yes, america sucks. I am of that opinion. (As it seems is most of the rest of the world). Doesnt mean I think Americans suck. And for the record, the uk sucks just as hard. Please dont take what ive said as a ‘we’re better than you’, patriotic angle. (even if we are : P )
