mm, i guess that is quite a large cooler. there’s nothing for scale, though. those pics could have been taken from 2 inches away, for all we know. probably isnt as big in real life ; /

your dirty graphics card pictures didnt exist either, peanut. might be a forum problem.

    dirty.

ok, that’s a big cooler. but do you have enough storage and hard drive capacity to make it count?

i dont partition the last 30% or so of my main arrays. that pic is from one PC. or, one motherboard rigged to a few hard drives on the floor, the way things are : ). those 500’s are single platter. problem with raid 0 – it’s hard to find a big enough single drive for backups and images. i know that’s not new. and noise is a problem.

this is a cool little program: http://mt-naka.com/hotswap/index_enu.htm
    (i guess it’s a different naka?)

allows you to spin down drives youre not using.

    This is my biggest server.

Guys, your cooling, vibration & noise problems are nothing compared to mine.

lives upside down under my desk. bit grubby, actually. must clean that fan. we’re all gonna be on clouds in another 10 years, bet you.

I like that case and under the desk mounting. Its a very good solution.

yeap – works well as a development server, or for hosting scorched servers. it’s completely silent and uses about 30W of e. (cheap to run). passive heat sink on the cpu. that fan on the case ticks over so it’s only just spinning – must be about 300rpm.

i had the whole thing running from a usb stick, but ive just added a 2.5 hdd for extra storage. might see if i can mount the usb as the apache server directory and put the hard drive to sleep when it’s not in use. kind of a poor man’s solid state.

Do you have a space for at least 1 hard drive inside? it must be.
I am still thinking about possibility to mount a 2-3 disks (raid) inside such cases.

It would be a perfect server. – fast enough 😀 (you can gain speed from the raid too), very small 😀 , low thermal power 😀 , silent. 😀
