I’m trying to run Scorched3D on Linux but with much trouble….
I am able to start the game and choose display settings etc. but when I choose single player , teams the game begins to load – but under this loading process the game exits the game window and displays this error in my console:

Distro? Self compiled or ready made (rpm, tar.gz, deb?)? Versions of libaries (take a look to the “install” file

    Distro: Slackware
Well, I have tried installing it from both source(self compiled) and from rpm…. same error – segmentation fault.
As for the version of libs I guess you’re referring to the COMPILING file? Anyway – I have checked and I belive I’ve meet the requirements but I’ll post mine anyway:

    aclocal (GNU automake) - 1.7.7
    automake (GNU automake) - 1.7.7
    autoconf (GNU Autoconf) - 2.57
    GNU Make - 3.80
    gcc version - 3.2.3

    SDL - 1.2.6
    SDL_mixer - 1.2.6
    SDL_net - 1.2.6

    wx-windows - 2.4.2

    server glx - 1.2
    client glx - 1.3
    OpenGL - 1.3 (X4.3.0-3.7.0)
    glu - 1.3

There, I think I mentioned them all – I hope this helps 🙂

Ok, can you generate a stack trace for me from the version of scorched3d you compiled.

    cd into the scorched3d directory.
Run scorched3d with the -allowexceptions flag.
Get it to fall over (should be easy from what you say)
There should now be a core file in the same dir. Something named core.* or core.
    Run gdb – gdb
    then in gdb type where
    post the results.

If you could, it would help greatly.

When I wun scorched3d with the -allowexceptions flag is doesn’t create a core file…. I tried both as root and as a regular user – no core file.

I don’t know if it matters but I’ve installed the new 2.6.2 Linux kernel…

Perhaps you have core files turned off.

Try typing “ulimit -c” to see the maximum core file size.
You can allow core files by typing “ulimit -c 999999” before running scorched3d.

I hope I did it the right way ’cause this doesnt make any sence to me 😛 Might aswell be in chinese! lol….anyway, after typing “where” in the gdb I get the following:

    (gdb) where
    #0 0x41599553 in s11401 () from /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri/fglrx_dri.so
    #1 0x00000000 in ?? ()

The only stuff I recognize is the fglrx thingie which is(I think) a driver for my ATI Radeon 9000…..

the gdb command “info stack” could probably help too if i remember well (longer output usually).

Little consolation but at least it cored in the driver module and not in scorched3d 😉
