The CVS version of Scorched3D version 41.1 should now compile and run in 64bit mode.

The CVS version is compatible with the released version of 41.1 and both 32bit and 64bit client/servers should also be compatible.

Let me know if you have any issues.

I have a couple of quick n00b questions about this:

    1. Do I have to compile this on a 64 bit machine for it to work properly? (All my tools are on the 32 bit one but I want to copy them to the 64 bit machine if possible).

    2. Do I have to have a 64 bit OS to take advantage of 64 bit Scorched?

I just tested on gentoo/amd64 and it works GREAT !!

Do you you plan to make an “official” release with theses arch fixes ?

Thx for the really quick fix !!

Edit : only tested on local

    Here I sit
    Broken hearted
    Want to play
    But can’t get started

    (Sorry. Yeah. Bad.)
    (Mac)

I know it’s coming Gavin, and I’m thankful for your efforts. I have three games I play the most, and Scorched is number two. Were 40.1 to be the last Mac release, I’d still be happy. Much joy (and pain, but the good kind). But the little red dude on my left shoulder with the horns and tail forces me to make snarky posts, because he wants to help me win while I play the latest greatest.

I play mostly solo vs. bots, it’s big fun. Played a few times online, had my hiney handed to me, but still fun. I watch some of the videos online (thanks Direwolf, those videos have brought a few friends into the fold), and the games I normally play seem like kindergarten to some of the stuff I see in those videos.

I need to bone up. I go play now. Thank you Gavin (and the other folks that have irons in this fire).

PS. FYI: UT, S3D, AoE. QED, TNT, and I’m out.

Yes you need a 64 bit os and 64 compile tools.

Not sure what OS you are using but I used fedora core 7 (64 bit) and the compilation (and OS/tools install) was painless.

Will it work to compile this in 64bit for OS X 10.5 too?

is this source tar bal (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/scorched3d/Scorched3D-41.1-src.tar.gz?download) contains this 64bit update?

There is currently no source tar ball for the 64 bit version, I’ll update once the mac version is verified.

I can test on windows X64 and Ubuntu 64 bit if you guys want.
I have SOlaris and 64 bit Desktop BSD too.

Why dont you guys release binary versions?

Do you want this to be a Guru only release or something?

Why not release a binary so that normal people can test it for you too?

If anyone has a windows X64 Binary, please post a link. Thanks 🙂

    Runs well on FreeBSD.

@mmph, this is not a guru thing.
You have 3 Nixes at your disposal, building on any of them is a snap.
    Here’s how to do it.
Get all packages Scorched3d depends on.
Get the source tarball and unpack it.
    Open a Terminal.
Enter scorched/scripts/ and type: perl createAMMakefile.pl
Enter the main scorched directory and type: sh ./autogen.sh
    Type: make (gmake on BSDs)

Get a cup of coffee and wait for the build to finish. ( 15min)
If anything goes wrong, the compiler will tell you what the problem is.

    Type: make install (as root)

    That’s it. 😀

To build on Windows, you need Visual Studio.
Just point VS to the project file and hit the compile button.

It can’t get any easier than that, can it ?

Dude… To find the answer to that question you have to look no further than your own comment. Four operating systems, two CPU architectures = eight binary builds. They don’t get paid to do this.
