    A new &more powerful flame-smoke trails for projectiles

    guess ill try my luck @ requesting here rather then spm’s
    as not to *flood our leaders pm box with rubish*

    ok been wanting this for a while now..

    on any given missle projectile that is fired I think it’s time for
    a better & more realistic missle launch flame & smoke effect trail
    that follows the missle…not that I dont like the upside down candle
    we have now.. it just does’nt feel to have much thrust as the flame
    flickers with the given wind direction.. & real thrust *Laughs at wind*
    as theres more power @ 2,000,000 lbs X times the force of wind?

    so what I am using as an example of what I would like to see
    in effects is this photo of the space shuttle blasting off.

    you get the point of what i mean but with specifics in effects
    I mean that ..

    1) I would like to see a new texture for the thrust flame
    brighter and with more boost and also a 1-100
    depending on the projectile size as i would think death head rocket thrust
    would be very big & baby missles would be puny *not all the same*.

    2) similarly I would like to see an after effect of the smoke trails
    it leaves behind also in 1-100 but also
    smaller towards the thrust engine larger & with a smoke delay being
    towards the further distance from the missle so like this

    im not talking about the delay we already have that as an example
    i use for the flame thrower & not replacing the old but adding a
    *new* flame trail texture for the more powerful rockets.

    —-< oo0O()( ) <--- smoke smaller-bigger with a delay from the furthest
    distance before it then disapears.

    in my head i would think of it being similar to the explosion texture
    cloud.bmp but rather it leaving a trail in one direction that disapates.

    with the new tags I would imagine it something like

    then after i posted it I reaslised I goofed so went to race to copy this
    post there so it would be organised.. & came back to remove this one

    Isn’t it a little off to compare the flame trail of a missile to that of a space shuttle?

    Although I agree that it should be brighter than it is now.

    no, its not off at all, when shooting the larger stuff, the solid propellant should make a nice trail very similar looking to the shuttle blastoff, just faster, so its not quite as thick.

    Sorry, shock, the bitterly dissapointing amount of work for me to do here leaves me nothing else to do but haunt the forums. No gaming at this job unfortunately. Got to get out of office for that. 🙄

    Don’t try getting too technical about the smoke-to-projectile output..

    Otherwise I might have to pull up this deah head , 10x size of my tank, being shot from a handgun of a little hedgehog.. How it fits though that gun’s barrel I’ll never know… 😛



    No actually I’m all in favor of advancing the graphics.

    The idea of an initial thrust (big puff of smoke at the ground) representing takeoff sounds interesting.. again all in prospective of the projectile your launching (i dun wanna that shuttle thrust ona tracer 😛 )

    Smoke weapon…

    BD tested one a while back in his mod, called it ninja-smoke.
    it created a 2-3 round slowly dissapating cloud that obscured vision.

    it looked cool, was fun to target thru, and was a great way to burn a hole
    in any video-card. It took a lot of processing and display power for it to
    look best.

    i’m sure, like any other cloud effect, it could be sped up and adapted to
    an exaust plume. while my pc explodes trying to view it..

    @ thrax we understand we can make small explosive textures
    behind the projectiles & make our own but that means
    *if you have’nt noticed*…take some of bd’s weapons in his mod
    for example: it takes ALOT of *UN necessary* syntax &
    causes much cpu-heart attack lag.

    I would just like gavin just to either fine tune it a little better or
    create & add in code a new flame*thrust trail* that looks more realistic.

    Depending on what size the weapons are the new *thrust trail*
    should look as though an actual rocket lauch & as i said before
    NOT the same candle that was turned upside down.

    I agree with everything boy stated.. DeathStryker go buy yourself
    an estes rocket from a toy store & compare its blast off to the
    picture above and Im sure you will notice it is very similar ..
    but smaller in size ofcourse.

    & for god sakes man if you test this estes theory…
    please dont strap any frogs or live things to the rocket
    as that’s just cruel.

    Oh & not indoors take it outside to the
    wide open spaces of a park!

    lastly do not use christmas wraping cardboard tubes &
    launch the rockets like a bazooka at the kids playing
    on the swing sets.

    1) you lose eyebrows that way.
    2) sometimes those kids parents are football players
    trust me.. I had to learn these things the hard way 😈

    I request something without checking the todo list
    then I endup looking quite the f00l & this happens way too much.

    Now what I want to know is, what are the odds of getting smoke/flame color added to the xml files? I could swear I remember seeing a variable in the code for color that is not exposed in the xml anywhere. I would like to be able to make green trails for my acid weapons, or red trails to simulate blood or something like that. 🙂
