    I wanted to start a topic about my server more as a feed back center for those people who connect to it.

    Just some stats:
    * The server is running the Shock Mod with all weapons available at the start – I think this is more fun, but I’m open for suggestions.
    * There are seven bots at the start – as more players connect, the bots drop out.
    * The server is a Win98, Pentium 550MHz machine
    * The connection is DSL
    * The games pretty much go unmonitored because I don’t even have that much time to play.

    If you encounter problems with the server, please post them here. I see that sometimes players connect and then quickly disconnect. I would like to know why, especailly if there is a problem.

    Is lag an issue? I notice that there are loop errors in the log from time to time. I don’t know if it’s on my end or on the player’s end.

    Feed back is important to me. I want to host a server that people want to connect to, especially since the main Shock Mod Server doesn’t seem to be up these days. If you have suggestions, please post them here.

    I am also trying to do some map changes – it is “Scorched Boston” afterall, and I plan on playing up that theme…I just need to make the maps and figure out how to best implement them.

    Have fun!

    The biggest thing to remember is that it’s your server So set it up how you think you like it.

    Excellent point…but, a server is only useful if people enjoy playing on it, no?

    It’s a cool server in my oppion but there are way to many rounds & moves per round, but that’s just me so if u don’t want to change it i understand. Yes there is lag, but it could be me when i’m there or your server.

    Spectrum, thanks for the feedback. I realized that having so many turns per round makes waiting for the bots to finish tough sometimes. I’ll turn it down a bit. I’m not sure what to do about the lag. I am going to call Verizon and sign up for the faster service (I hear you actually have to call them to get the 3x over the 1.5x service they already offer…going to do that today). Perhaps that will help…

    The documentation provided with the game is actually quite good at explaining how to set up a server, at least the basics. Just go to your Scorched3D folder in your Start menu (assuming you are using Windows) and select Scorched3D Documentation. A browser should start up. Scroll down to and click on Online/server guide and then scroll down to find Starting A Scorched3D Server.

    You will also need to set up your router firewall to allow traffic through the correct ports (either a hardware router, or a software firewall). This can be tricky, especially if you are using both a hardware and software firewall.

    Some things you won’t find in the documentation is how to change more of the settings. When you start Scorch and you click the Start a LAN or internet server…, you can select the mod you want your server to use (assuming you have any installed). You can also click the Edit Advanced Settings to change how many bots play, the economics, land forms, etc…Also, if you set up to play a mod, you’ll need to make the Mod Download Speed to something other than 0, or your players won’t be able to download the mod if they don’t already have it.

    Hope this helps…

    I like the normal Scorched and the mods to ,so , 4 me , is not a problem wath game u run .I dont play in your server because ,with all weapons 4 free ,all the ppl shoot always the more large arm and there is not a great tactics; and ,as Spectrum has said, there are to many rounds.

    * There are seven bots at the start – as more players connect, the bots drop out.
    That’s is good, so i can play waiting others players

    I havent lag problems in your server.

    @tora – Thanks for the feed back! I did reduce the number of turns down to 15. I hope that helps reduce the amount of time people have to wait in the event that all humans are dead.

    Maybe I’ll do a change up with the economics…I can do something where you have to play a while to get to the larger weapons, but they won’t be impossible to buy. I’ll give it some though.

    P.S. The server setup explaination was meant for Mr. @. I hope he stopped in to see it. I hope it answered his question…

    Hey, it’s great now the numbers of round & turns is good, but i think it would be more challengeing to have alll the bots as cyborgs, again this is just me so do with my comment as u like!

    @spectrum – I can make the bots smarter…I notice that they don’t win enough rounds so that’s certainly something I can do.

    Thanks for the feedback! It’s because of these comments that I will continue to tweak my server.

    Although, in the interest of time (my time, that is), I have abandoned my quest to make maps of the Massachusetts area. I spent more time than I really thought it would take and still have nothing worth playing to show for it. I’m sorry…
