    Just Curious Gavin but is scorched 3d somehow skinable?

    the old redmond style is looking too plain and I wish that we
    could update the main window look with crisp looking skins 🙂

    heres a good example of what I would really like to see in a
    future request ..

    weld these two pictures below together and I would imagine the
    buttons and new gui would look shiney & modernised 😀

    I pasted a picture of the nero7 showtime skins that only have 2 files
    located in its skin folder metal.bmp wich is the file you see to the right
    with pink as being translucent part I gather..

    and metal.skn wich is just a simple
    text file I opened with crimson editor to take a peek
    and it seems very similar to xml syntax.

    I think it would be pretty neat to see all the
    different styles & ideahs people come up with in being able
    to customise their own Scorched 3D windows 😀

    Interesting idea there but it would have to be mod only as it would be crazy to try to skin the game and then add another mod and have it override the last skin.

    Not if gavin made a new folder in the scorched 3d data root folder..

    Not really sure.. but what I was thinking is if scorched3d/data/skins
    had a place to store folder names for unique skins packages you could
    then switch between what skin packages you want to use depending
    wich you like best or your taste.

    So lets say I made a skin package called: liquid

    There would then be a folder named liquid located in the:
    scorched3d/data/skins/liquid wich would hold the 2 files
    needed for all of the skins pack files.

    gavin could then add a new drop down menu selection box in the main
    change game settings window wich would be similar to when you select
    a mod to play offline so you could switch between the skins at any time.

    So this wouldn’t have anything to do with the mods (or) effect
    anyone from having to change anything to their mods..
    ((except)) for the custom buttons your mod uses when selecting
    a mod or game to play in your modname/data/windows folder.

    this would just change the way scorched uses *some* of the pictures
    referenced to the existing buttons in use in the scorched/windows folder.

    Of course, gavin would still need to leave the scorched3d/data/windows
    there as it needs some of its file contents for the (ingame) gui such
    as the winda.bmp etc..etc.. but i spose one day even that could be
    converted into the same style of skinning methods to eliminate clutter.
    _________________________________________________________

    Infact from what I hear.. it’s better to only have 1 image then
    have multiple references to files all over the place wich helps
    cut down in cpu processor/gcard/memory think time.
    _________________________________________________________

    So Only *some* button files would then be converted over into
    the skins folder such as example: client.bmp, display.bmp, donate.bmp
    and would eliminate the clutter & clear up having to have all of those
    multiple button bmp files by just convert them all into 1 texture
    mapping .bmp …similar to what I was doing to help rob with apoc
    in his 3d texture maps.

    Also lets say some of you like the default look of scorched
    & dont want the look to change..

    you could still have the default skin loaded as the default setting
    wich would all be referenced to in the default skins folder. 🙂

    so if you wished.. you wouldn’t even be able to tell any changes
    took place & the visual appearence would still look the same in game.

    The only changes would be the looks of the main window boxes
    themselves wich is what you see when you click scorched.exe.

    So its not the ingame gui windows ..
    wich is what I think you meant jdog.

    I meant the main plain looking redmond style windows.
    and it would’nt really be hard for him to do (or) for people to make
    their own customisable skins being only 2 files needed to edit 😀

    Just think of the main window of the scorched interface as being
    skinable like winamp or the same way many of the messenger
    programs do it these days.. come to think of it.. even keygens
    or vb proggys do things very similar.

    This way we could design not only custom looking faces & buttons..
    but also the shapes & sizes of the windows themselves.

    Another example would be this picture below for the scorched default
    skin pack wich is how i would imagine it looking.

    when I opened the .skn txt syntax file in the nero7 directory
    using crimson editor I noticed that it had a simplistic type
    status bar map of all the locations of all the button placements wich
    indicates & references to where all the buttons images are in the .bmp
    by lines & columns on that bmp from the .skn file.

    This is what you see & click.

    here.. I copied some of the first couple rows of data so you get my drift.

    [Preview]
    Width = 172
    Height = 48
    ImageX = 628
    ImageY = 0
    MaskX = 628
    MaskY = 54
    HasMask = 1

    [MainWnd]
    Width = 592
    Height = 135
    ImageExX = 0
    ImageExY = 904
    MaskExX = 0
    MaskExY = 1042
    ImageNormalX = 0
    ImageNormalY = 0
    MaskNormalX = 0
    MaskNormalY = 143
    HasMask = 1

    [StopButton]
    PosX = 35
    PosY = 80
    Width = 44
    Height = 21
    UnpressX = 0
    UnpressY = 280
    PressX = 48
    PressY = 280
    DisableX = 192
    DisableY = 280
    UnderMouseX = 144
    UnderMouseY = 280
    MaskX = 240
    MaskY = 280
    HasMask = 1

    Anyways, gavin understands more so what I mean then i do LOL

    It’s up to him really but, it’s just another idea I thought I would
    throw out there to show how limitless scorched is!

    I like the idea and can see it bringing in yet even more people to the
    site to a seperate skins part of the forum where people can download
    & share eachothers creations.

    example:
    I would imagine cbx & steve having their own custom cowbell skins
    or apoc having its own exclusive nucular fallout skin etc..etc.

    Hi m8, You can already skin the in-game windows (like apoc has done) by changing the windows.xml file. You should be able to make it look like anything you want not just the standard 4 windows.
