Most people find this is caused by an incompatable graphics card.
If you go into the scorched3d display settings dialog and turn off open gl extensions then this should fix the problem for you.

    Hi

Thanx for the attention, but turning off gl extensions doesnt help.
In fact, turning off everithing in the display setting doesnt help either.
You said that I have maybe an incompatable graphics card.
    I have got a GeForce2 MX400 with 64 MByte ram. That’s pretty avarage I think.

    So what should I do?

Have you installed the nvidia display drivers for linux?

Have you compiled it yourself? Worked for me…

Of course I installed the nvidia driver.
    And I compiled it myself.
Well, I reinstall my whole system anyway in a few days, maybe this helps.

I’m having a similar problem. I’ve built both Scorched3D from source, and my nVidia drivers (4496). This is on Debian Sid machine, up-to-date. I’ve tried to get a backtrace from it, but all I get is:

    (gdb) bt
    #0 0x407708a3 in __strtod_internal () from /lib/tls/libc.so.6
    (gdb)

Not knowing much about gdb, I can’t really try more, so I’m hoping you people might help.

As a sidenote, the Debian package is broken, the data directory is /usr/share/scorched3d/data/, but the binary expects it to be in /usr/local/games/scorched3d/data/.

hi I have the same problem here with my installation: debian unstable, using the following packages:

    scorched3d_0.36.2-1_i386.deb
    scorched3d-data_0.36.2-1_all.deb

    I have a radeon 7200 card.

Not much I can do unless someone can get me a good stack trace.
I take you are using the latest version. Otherwise you may need to set the local to C.

I am way new to linux, so I don’t know how to give you a stack trace.

If it helps, I have a nVidia Gforce, with the latest drivers from nVidia. I get about 1400-1600 fps in glxgears.

Running Fedora Core 1, all updated, with XFree86-4.3.0-42
    .
    Does this help?
I did a force reinstall on wxGTK and on scorched3d…still get the same error.

    Did you compile wxWindows yourself?

Using fedore core 1 and the wxWindows and Scorched3D rpms I don’t see an issue.

I’m having a similar problem. right after running:
    neophyte@asterix:~$ scorched3d
Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)

    a strace reveals:

    munmap(0x41473000, 4096) = 0
lstat64(“/etc/gtk/gtkrc”, 0xbffff420) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
lstat64(“/home/neophyte/.gtkrc”, 0xbffff420) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
    lstat64(“/home/neophyte/.kde/share/config/gtkrc”, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1438, …}) = 0
    open(“/home/neophyte/.kde/share/config/gtkrc”, O_RDONLY) = 6
    — SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) —

    so I suppose it’s a gtk issue?

I ldd the executable, it’s linked to gtk version 1.2 (even though I have 2.x installed on the system as well). I haven’t updated gtk 1.2 libraries in months (but even so I have 1.2.9 – latest is 1.2.10).

one thing that’s weird is that ldd shows the executable to be linked against glib-1.2 AND glib-2.0. A stack trace with gdb reveals:

    (gdb) bt
    #0 0x409defac in g_hash_table_lookup () from /opt/glib/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0
    #1 0xbffff400 in ?? ()

    hope any of this helps
