This is a screenie of the error I get when trying to join the BlackRose mod that you host. After the error first happened, I deleted the mod folder and tried to reconnect, but no dice.

The first parsing error seems to refer to “shipssail.xmlh” — there’s a “shipssail.xml” but no “xmlh”.

There is a “texsand.xml” in the path mentioned.

    texsand.xml looks for 2 ships

    data/landscapes/shipssail.xml
    data/landscapes/shipsfish.xml

    there is no xmlh anywhere.
There is also no shipssail.xml in classic, it calls Gavins core files for it.
Did you maybe accidentally poke the texsand.xml of gavins core pack?

You are on linux, so I can’t tell why it wouldn’t be detecting it elsewhere if you did.

I’ve not altered any of the game files whatsoever, if that’s what you’re referring to by “poke”.

There is definitely a shipssail.xml file in .scorched3d/mods/classic/data/landscapes

The /usr/share/scorched3d/data/landscapes/texsand.xml file I have has these two lines in it, which is identical to what you say they should be:

    data/landscapes/shipssail.xml
    data/landscapes/shipsfish.xml

The other texsand.xml files I can find are .scorched3d/mods/classic/data/landscapes/texsand.xml and .scorched3d/mods/merge/data/landscapes/texsand.xml. Both of them have the same code segment in.

Yeah, I can’t find an “.xmlh” file anywhere, either – but, as you can see, it definitely says that in the error! Hmm, looking more closely, it doesn’t have a closing set of quotes at the end of that first parsing error — I wonder if the “h” is actually being generated by the code that displays the error message?

I’m going to try deleting the whole classic mod folder and see if that helps.

I see by the stats, you got in. Flushing the whole thing must have worked.

In v41, there is no shipssail.xml in the mod-files. I removed it when
converting. You must have tried using the folder of older files and
    the 2 versions got mixed.

And I diddnt mean you intentionally altered. Just that you may have
opened to examine it, and hit a key by accident. With my old broken
hands, I do it more often than I can count.. 😕

Well, that fixed it. Maybe there were some legacy files/settings in there from the pre v41 mod?

    Regardless, it now works 😀

now that the mod is converted to a workable state I will stop fiddling &
updating it to keep confusion down to minimum.

1 *last thing* i was trying to fix was black roses talk.bmp

I made the mistake of thinking it was alpha white around the chat bubble
but infact alpha for that image is black.

anyways here is the fix & my last update for you copy the image over & replace it.

    [attachment=0:27bfutnj]talk.bmp.zip[/attachment:27bfutnj]

also I’m not sure how you are getting 50 megs as you said..
My classic folder is 14.2 MB (14,901,339 bytes)

considering that’s apoc & black rose combined that’s not too shabby.

Righty. All images redone to better forms, few sounds updated.

Sorted out additional muzzleflash for rapid-fires. Activated the rest of the
maps that were still having Spaces in thier names. ( strange glitch, but hey. )

Hosting it in simple form on secondary pc first. After few hrs, i’l try restarting
it on the propper server pc. I’d love to be surprised and see no more error.

about your dump error with classic

my copy of classic is working fine so if it wasn’t an old screwy image format
then it has to be changes in script.. a hardware driver issue, a bad sound,
or a bad model you are using that I do not have in my copy.

to narrow it down and solve it would be tedious but effective..

I will post a link to my copy of classic here so you can beyond compare it
then <!–disable your changes (or) easier- add each new change to my copy
activate each change you make and test in stages without jumping too far
    ahead which sometimes causes confusion.

also if it helps I posted a bug tracking FileMon Tool in the developers
section that may actualy help narrow things down once you set the filters right.

also make sure you have both mods in globalmods rename mine to classica
and delete all your .scorched classic mod files in the user folder
then set your server to log.txt

last thing I can suggest is to break down & get yourself a modern pc
slap in tiny win7 & a new nvidea geforce 9400GT gcard for 60 bucks
over at dell.com with next day shipping for free 😛

Funny enough, the mod is perfectly intact.. it’s my server pc that is the
problem. My other gaming pc has been hosting it fine now for hours.

I’ve just finished another round of testing on the server pc and found what
is causing it to die.. It’s link to my Stats database.
By temporarily setting it to log stats to file, it’s now run for 3 games without
    a hitch.

I will probably have to correct my database eventually for several reasons, but
for now i’ll leave it going on file-stats untill i lock off this stats series.

Did you still think the wav’s needed gain leveling? I have one more day off,
and might as well get something done besides watching Red-Dwarf episodes. 😀

I wouldn’t worry about it unless people start to complain,
leveling sounds so some are not so loud would be some work
so If you do that then I would use a multi converter tool like super2007
or something so you can set multiple sounds in a tree all to a specific setting
saving you some time from going threw every individual sound file & formats.

Found the culprit in the map whiting out on lesser end computers.. they cant draw small volumes of fog..

Har.. that’s just too funny.. calling any pc other than mine.. ‘lesser end’.

It work’s fine on mine and always did. but.. ok. i’ll blank the miniscule fog
settings for those with ‘not quite lesser end’ video-chips.

PS: Except.. you also didn’t realize that’s the exact same fog-density setting
on most of gavins default maps… so you may want to search again for the
    real cause.

The whole map was fogged over in white, im not sure why.. but it fixed it when I set it to 0.(theres no fog now of course, but the map isnt white and it looks very nice out.) Only the laptops seemed to have a problem with it. (hence my “lesser end” term). Ill do some more testing.
