I got this error while trying to start version 38.1b from X11:
    Program Assert: in
    42:../common/RandomGenerator.cpp

    How do I fix this?

Did you compile from source? If so, “make install”.

No, I didn’t have to compile anything. Binaries are posted in the file area so that’s what I installed.

Hmm. Where did it install to?

Scorched is installed in /usr/local/games/scorched-bin – which has been the default game location for the past couple of versions of Scorched.

I don’t think my problem is related to an installation issue – as I’ve installed the past few versions without incident on a few machines.

I would be EXTREMELY grateful if someone would please address this.

Who maintains the OS X port, anyway? Another request–stick a little readme in there to tell us where to install the files. I stuck the executable in /usr/bin and the dat/docs in /usr/share, but in any case received the same cryptic message reported by the previous usier.

I would REALLY like to play this game on my Mac.

    Thanks.

I’m having the same problem described by the original poster. I replaced my working v38.1 installation with the v38.1b binary available on the files page, and boom…

    Program Assert: in
    42:../common/RandomGenerator.cpp

Thanks for your support and for creating this great game!

I’m also having the same issue. Any fixes for this yet?

Still waiting for GCamp to fix it…

It looks like it is hard coded to
    /usr/local/games/scorched3d/share
for the scorched3d shared data directory.

    I will recompile to fix.
Meanwhile you could move the scorched3d data directory into this directory and it should work.

Ok, how did you get it working? I just downloaded the file today, and moved it to the directory mentioned above, but I am still getting the error. How can I get it to work? Thanks.

The game works fine if it’s located in /usr/local/games/scorched3d
